Aeroplan has been testing the waters with selling their miles to select number of members. Last week, Aeroplan reached out to select members with a targeted offer – to buy Aeroplan miles for as low as 1.5 CAD cents/mile! That is an incredible price point.
Buy Aeroplan Miles for 1.5 cents/mile
Members reported receiving these emails on Dec 11 and had a week to make a decision. Although I did not personally receive this offer, some friends did and I have shared the details below. Members received an offer to purchase at 1.5 cents/mile or 1.8 cents/mile. If you were one of the lucky recipients, the deadline to buy is tonight, Dec 19th, 2018.
The offer to buy Aeroplan miles at 1.5 CAD cents/mile was capped at 499,999 miles. This price point would make Aeroplan miles the cheapest in the market, cheaper than even Avianca LifeMiles.
Examples of trips you could buy outright with this offer;
- North America to Europe r/t in business class (110,000 AP miles) would cost $1650 CAD
- North America to Middle East or South Asia r/t (150,000 AP miles) would cost $2250 CAD
Wow. Add to this the generous routing (stopovers and open jaw) rules with Aeroplan award tickets, and the value proposition sky-rockets.
Buy Aeroplan Miles for 1.8 cents/mile
Not everyone got the generous 1.5 cents/mile offer, some members were targeted for 1.8 cents/mile offers as well – below is an example of buying 75000 miles for $1350+tax. Still a pretty decent offer with immediate use in mind.

Cheapest ways to accumulate Aeroplan miles continues to be through churning signup bonuses from credit cards (1:1 conversion to Aeroplan), here are some of my favourites (affiliate links);

I think Aeroplan is testing consumer interest and may make miles purchase available to all members in future campaigns. This could also mean a serious devaluation of miles, if they continue to sell at these prices. I don’t see them sustaining this price-point for too long. Regardless, for all those who received this offer, deadline to buy Aeroplan miles is tonight, Dec 19, 2018!!
