PointSavers remains one of the few ways to score discounted award redemptions in the era of Marriott dynamic pricing. However, it’s not a headline feature that Marriott heavily promotes, and many members may overlook it entirely. Knowing how to spot it can help you squeeze more value out of your Bonvoy balance when the opportunity arises.

What is Marriott PointSavers?

PointsSavers is Marriott’s way of offering limited-time discounts on award stays at select properties. Instead of paying the standard dynamic rate, members can book certain hotels for fewer points during specific date ranges.

It can apply across a wide range of brands, from select-service hotels to luxury properties. However, participation is optional, and availability tends to be sporadic.

The Opaque Nature of PointSavers

Rather than a fixed percentage discount, PointSavers rates vary by property and date. In practice, this might mean saving a few thousand points per night.

However, Marriott does not specify which hotels participate, what discount members can expect if PointSavers is available, or what availability might look like for any property or region.

I like to call it the “surprise and delight” feature of Marriott Bonvoy. I never expect it to show up, but am pleasantly surprised if it does.

How to search and book Marriott PointSavers

Checking for PointSavers awards is very straightforward. You’ll run a regular search for award stays on the Marriott website or mobile app, and the PointSavers rate will reflect automatically in the pricing when available.

What’s less straightforward is finding participating properties. There’s no dedicated PointsSavers filter, so you’ll need to check hotels individually.

Because PointSavers availability can change at any time, it’s worth checking your desired property across multiple dates or monitoring pricing periodically. Flexibility is key if you’re hoping to take advantage of these limited-time discounts.

Is PointsSavers Worth It?

To cut to the chase: mostly no, but sometimes yes. Because it’s not available on any consistent basis, it’s hard to rely on Pointsavers upon when booking any specific trip. When available, discounts typically amount to around 20% off the regular redemption price, which the app also displays alongside the Pointsavers rate.

That said, Marriott ultimately controls the “regular” redemption price. The skeptic in me wonders whether prices are occasionally inflated before PointsSavers discounts are applied, as we see in grocery and retail stores.

To Marriott’s credit, I usually see PointSavers awards available at actual discounts at specific hotels where I’m familiar with the regular dynamic pricing. However, its opaque nature makes it an unreliable way to book hotel stays, so I never focus on whether a hotel offers PointSavers.

Since dynamic pricing fluctuates anyway, PointSavers can honestly just be viewed as the lower end of the dynamic rate rather than a proper discount.

Takeaway

Marriott PointSavers can offer real savings, but its inconsistent and opaque nature makes it difficult to treat as a reliable booking strategy. In many ways, it’s closer to the lower end of dynamic pricing than a true, dependable discount.

When it appears, it’s worth taking advantage of, but it’s not something you should plan your trips around.
