American and Porter Airlines have entered a new partnership that will significantly enhance travel opportunities between Canada, the United States, and beyond. Effective immediately, travellers can book eligible codeshare flights across both carriers, with booking available through both carriers. This agreement will expand over time to include additional destinations, with loyalty program integration also planned for future phases.
New Partnership – American and Porter Airlines
The collaboration brings together Porter’s (PD) expanding Canadian network with American Airlines’ (AA) extensive reach across the United States and southern destinations. For passengers, this means greater connectivity and seamless itineraries linking Canadian cities with AA’s key hubs. The partnership also establishes an alternative choice for travellers seeking convenience and competitive options when flying between the two countries.
Initially, Porter will place its code on select American Airlines flights within the United States. These include transborder and domestic services through major hubs;
- Charlotte (CLT)
- Chicago O’Hare (ORD)
- Dallas Fort Worth (DFW)
- Philadelphia (PHL)
Over the coming weeks, the codeshare will grow to include AA’s leisure and business destinations, such as;
- Honolulu (HNL)
- Nashville (BNA)
- New Orleans (MSY)
- Portland (PDX)
- Sacramento (SMF)
- Salt Lake City (SLC)
- San Jose (SJC)
Importantly, AA’s southern routes will also be included, extending codeshare access into the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.
At the same time, American Airlines will place its code on a range of Porter flights within Canada, including;
- Toronto Pearson (YYZ)
- Edmonton (YEG)
- Halifax (YHZ)
- Ottawa (YOW)
- Victoria (YYJ)
- Winnipeg (YWG)
Within weeks, more destinations will be added, including;
- Calgary (YYC)
- Charlottetown (YYG)
- Kelowna (YLW)
- St. John’s (YYT)
- Saskatoon (YXE)
- Vancouver (YVR)
This cooperation goes beyond Canadian routes. AA’s code will also appear on select Porter transborder flights from YYZ, including the Toronto–Phoenix (PHX) service, with additional cross-border routes planned for later phases.
Loyalty Program Benefits
For now, the partnership allows AAdvantage® members to earn miles and Loyalty Points on Porter-operated flights when booked under the American Airlines code. This means customers purchasing eligible codeshare tickets will receive full recognition within the AAdvantage program, a significant benefit for U.S.-based flyers. Future phases of the agreement are expected to bring deeper integration of loyalty programs, including the ability to earn and redeem points across both AAdvantage and VIPorter programs.
Takeaway
American Airlines already maintains a strong presence in Canada, with more flights to Toronto Pearson than any other U.S. airline. Combined with year-round services to Calgary (YYC), Montreal (YUL), and Vancouver (YVR), as well as seasonal flights to Halifax (YHZ) and Quebec City (YQB), this American and Porter Airlines partnership will provide travellers with a greater choice of options when moving between Canada and the U.S.
