Conrad New York Midtown – Introduction and Booking
After my weekend stay at the Residence Inn Manhattan to watch the Thanksgiving Parade, I decided to cap off my New York visit with a stay at the Conrad. The Conrad New York Midtown offers residential-style accommodations following an extensive renovation in 2019. With 562 rooms, including 496 and 13 premium suites, the hotel caters to various guest needs, from solo travellers to families and larger groups. The hotel is ideally situated steps away from Central Park, providing easy access to iconic landmarks such as Rockefeller Center, the Museum of Modern Art, and the vibrant Theater District. Additional facilities include a 1,500-square-foot fitness center, 6,000 square feet of flexible function space, and Dabble, an onsite restaurant.
Review: Residence Inn New York Manhattan
Bucket List: Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade NYC
At Conrad, a standard room over a weekend typically costs $550 or 95,000 Hilton Honors points. I used my Hilton free-night certificate, which was close to its expiration date at the time of booking. Thanks to my Diamond status, I was upgraded from a standard King room to a 1 Bedroom Suite.
Conrad New York Midtown – King Bed Suite
The room was spacious, with a living room with a giant-screen TV, a pull-out Sofa bed, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. It had a mini fridge fully stocked with beers, spirits, and pop, a Nespresso coffee machine, wine glasses, champagne flutes, and rock glasses if you wanted a drink.
If I am being honest, while the room was impressive with its hardwood floor, area rug, and comfortable leather couches, the view of the backs of other hotel and corporate buildings was lacklustre compared to my Residence Inn New York’s Empire State Building view, and I also preferred the full fridge and microwave at the Residence Inn.
Conrad New York Midtown – Breakfast and gym
Thanks to Diamond status, I did get a food and beverage credit of up to $50 that can be used towards anything at the hotel restaurant. All meals, including breakfast, are served at Dabble, the in-house restaurant on the main floor. A continental breakfast cost $25, and the Hot breakfast was $50. So, with Diamond status, you can enjoy a hot breakfast and only have to pay the tax and gratuity.
Items included scrambled eggs, eggs benedict, sausage, bacon, stir-fried vegetables, and hot oatmeal. Continental included fresh fruit, cheeses, meat and salmon, croissants, bagels and breads, and hard-boiled eggs. Depending on your hunger, both options provide a great start to your morning. An A la carte menu was also available if you preferred that option.
The hotel gym was impressive. It had nearly anything from a fully functional gym to peloton machines, treadmills, weights, ellipticals and more. They even had bottles of water and light snacks like apples and bananas.
Conrad New York Midtown – Takeaway
Having stayed at the Residence Inn and Conrad back to back, it was hard not to compare the residential style accommodation offered by both brands. While the Conrad is considered 5-star versus the Residence Inn New York, which was 3-star, I will say that I preferred the residence Inn to the Conrad room mainly due to the kitchen in my room and the better view. So, it shows you that a 3-star hotel sometimes provides a few more amenities than a 5-star hotel. So it’s a question of what you value most on vacation: location, the view, the room to relax in, breakfast, etc.
