ExpertFlyer, a critical tool widely used by frequent flyers to monitor award availability, seat maps, and upgrades, has announced a new set of features that will improve premium travel planning. The latest release introduces expanded upgrade search capabilities, improved visual seat maps, and a significant increase in alert limits for award and seat availability. According to the company, this represents the most significant product update since the platform was originally launched, 17 years ago.

ExpertFlyer – Enhanced Visual Seat Maps

After SeatGuru’s shutdown in 2025, many travellers lost a reliable resource for quickly evaluating aircraft seating configurations. ExpertFlyer’s updated seat map functionality now fills part of that gap by providing detailed aircraft layout information alongside seat availability data.

Users can view both available and occupied seats in an easy-to-read format. The enhanced seat maps include Cabin layout configurations, Seat pitch and seat width information, Aircraft variants and cabin products, and detailed aircraft configuration data.

The new enhanced visual seat maps will be particularly useful on aircraft types that operate multiple configurations, where seating layouts and amenities may vary significantly – think Swiss and Lufthansa Allegris with 5 different variations. Or Air India’s fleet transformation process, which runs different aircraft and configurations on the same routes.

Users can toggle between the new detailed seat map interface and the traditional ExpertFlyer layout depending on their preference.

Expanded American Airlines Systemwide Upgrade Search

Another major feature is the expansion of the American Airlines Systemwide Upgrade (SWU) search capability. ExpertFlyer members can now search for SWU upgrade availability across routes up to 330 days in advance. Previously, users typically had to search for upgrade space one route at a time within a limited date window.

The expanded tool allows broader searches across multiple routes. For example, users can search for availability between regions such as ‘Anywhere in the United States‘ to ‘Anywhere in Europe‘. This makes it significantly easier for American Airlines elite status holders to identify flights with upgrade space.

The feature is particularly relevant to flyers holding American Airlines systemwide upgrade certificates, which often have expiration deadlines. Instead of manually checking numerous city pairs and travel dates, users can now quickly identify routes with upgrade inventory. Search results are updated regularly, and a one-click verification option allows users to confirm upgrade availability before booking a flight.

This feature is part of a newly introduced Elite plan designed for high-tier American Airlines frequent flyers, including Concierge Key, Executive Platinum, and Platinum Pro members.

Increased Award Alerts and Quick Alert Features

ExpertFlyer has also increased the number of alerts that users can set for award and seat availability. Previously, the platform limited basic users to just four seat alerts. That cap has now increased significantly.

  • Basic – Up to 50 alerts
  • Premium – Up to 250 alerts
  • Elite – Up to 250 alerts

In addition to the higher limits, ExpertFlyer has introduced Quick Alerts, which allow users to create alerts more quickly for several types of changes, including Aircraft changes, Schedule changes, Seat availability, and First Class inventory changes. Note that Quick Alerts are only available to Premium and Elite users, while Basic users continue to have access to standard seat alerts.

ExpertFlyer Pricing

ExpertFlyer continues to offer several subscription tiers depending on how frequently travellers use the platform’s tools. The platform offers both monthly and annual subscription options. Annual plans effectively provide two months free compared to monthly billing, with current pricing as follows;

  • Basic – $5.99 per month
  • Premium – $10.99 per month
  • Elite – $19.99 per month

A free tier remains available for users who only require basic seat map access and a single alert at a time.

Takeaway

ExpertFlyer has long been one of the more widely used tools among frequent flyers for tracking award space, monitoring seat availability, and identifying upgrade opportunities. With enhanced seat maps, expanded upgrade search functionality, and significantly higher alert limits, the platform continues to add value for travellers planning premium cabin experiences.

ExpertFlyer new features are now live and available to subscribers through the ExpertFlyer platform.
