Mimaru Hotels is a popular hotel group in Japan, specializing in apartment-style lodging with rooms accommodating 4 to 10 guests. It’s the perfect place to stay in Japan for groups of friends or families. This IS a stand-out selling point in a country where hotel rooms lean on the smaller side and typically accommodate 2.

There are 27 locations in Japan and 10 of them across Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto feature their fun Pokémon-themed rooms. They are newly-renovated and expanded as of February 2026.

While a non-points hotel isn’t typically something we cover on PMB, I know Japan has been and remains a popular travel destination for our audience.  Mimaru is a great option, especially for groups of friends or families. Later in the article, we’ll go over how you can cover a stay with points.

Mimaru’s Pokémon Rooms

Originally launched in 2019, these themed rooms have recently been refreshed with an even bigger focus on immersion and family-friendly design. The goal of the recent update is to bring more Pokémon into every corner of the space. Admittedly, I am not the biggest Pokémon fan, but even I can appreciate the immersive nature and the attentiveness to detail.

The bathroom features tranquil Water-type Pokémon, while the kitchen showcases food-loving Pokémon.

The Pokémon Rooms are now available at 10 Mimaru properties across Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, including newer Tokyo locations like Hatchobori and Ikebukuro. In terms of location, my preference would be the Mimaru Tokyo Ginza East, as Ginza features plenty of my favourite things about Tokyo: excellent food and shopping.

Also, keep an eye out for the iconic ginat Snorlax plushie. Every stay in a Pokémon-themed room also includes a special Pokémon goodie bag.

As with all MIMARU rooms, you’ll get a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and separate sleeping spaces. This is obviously a major advantage for families or groups who don’t want to squeeze into a standard Japanese hotel room.

Redeem Points for Mimaru Hotels

If you’re hoping that Mimaru is actually secretly part of a major hotel chain and you can redeem your Marriott Bonvoy points for an upcoming stay, I’m sorry to disappoint.

But you can absolutely redeem fixed travel points towards your stay. Think TD Rewards, Scotia Scene+ points, or BMO Rewards. You can redeem BMO Rewards at a fixed rate of 0.67 cents per point, Scene+ points at a rate of 1 cent per point, and TD Rewards at 0.5 cents per point when used on Expedia for TD. You’ll be pleased to learn that Mimaru is available via Expedia.

Scene+ is my favourite fixed-value points currency due to how easy it is to redeem directly on the Scene+ portal as a statement credit. It’s also easy to rack up lots of points due to the high earn rates on Scotiabank credit cards: the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card earns 6X at Sobeys and FreshCo, 5X at all other grocery stores, and 3X on gas, transit, and streaming services.

The Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite earns 2X on grocery, dining, entertainment, and transit, and these elevated earn rates even apply abroad, with no foreign transaction fees.Scotiabank Passport

The welcome bonus on both Scotiabank cards is also elevated at the moment: up to 45,000 points on the Scotia Amex Gold and up to 60,000 points on the Scotia Passport Visa Infinite.

Many PMB readers are also likely sitting on a nice stack of TD Rewards Points due to the juicy 165,000-point welcome bonus on the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite, along with an annual fee rebate in the first year. This is one of PMB’s top-recommended cards for February 2026 and has been enhanced with 4 complimentary lounge visits.

Takeaway

Mimaru Hotels in Japan are known for their apartment-style accommodations for groups or families. Their Pokémon-themed rooms completed renovations a few weeks ago and are available in 10 properties across Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. The usual Mimaru inclusions are kitchens, dining areas, and separate sleeping areas.

Pokémon-room specific inclusions include a giant Snorlax plushie, exclusive goodie bag, and, of course, immersive Pokémon-theming throughout. A few inclusions are Poké Ball plates, Gyarados in the bathroom, and an exclusive Pokémon goodie bag.

Redeem fixed-value travel points towards your stay, like BMO Rewards, Scene+ points, or TD Rewards. If using TD Rewards, it’s optimal to book through Expedia For TD, while BMO Rewards and Scene+ can be redeemed directly for statement credit.
