Good news for North America and even better news for the Canadian points community! Qatar Airways has announced the launch of a new non-stop service between Doha (DOH) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), set to begin on December 11, 2024. This addition marks the airline’s second Canadian destination and fourteenth gateway in the Americas, joining Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL). The new Toronto route will initially operate three times weekly, with flights scheduled on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
The flights will be operated by Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, featuring 42 Qsuite Business Class seats and 312 Economy Class seats, offering passengers access to Qatar Airways’ renowned in-flight services. This new service is expected to enhance connectivity for Canadian travellers, providing convenient access to destinations across the airline’s extensive global network, including cities in South Asia such as Colombo, Delhi, and Mumbai and Southeast Asian hubs like Bangkok and Kathmandu.
The launch of the Toronto route is part of Qatar Airways’ continued efforts to expand its presence in North America and strengthen its role as a global connector. Qatar Airways continues to prioritize connectivity and luxury for its passengers, offering travel options to over 170 destinations worldwide through its hub in Doha.
Booking Qatar Airways with Points – YYZ to DOH
Thanks to the ability to link Qatar Privilege and the British Airways Executive Club account, redeeming Avios points is the best way to redeem for Qatar Qsuite or First Class (not available from YYZ or YUL). For Canadians, transferring RBC Avion points to British Airways Avios with a 30% bonus remains the easiest and the most popular way to fund Avios points towards Qatar redemption.
It looks like award availability has been loaded for the YYZ-DOH route. I was able to search using the British Airways award search tool and saw a good spread of availability from Spring to early Fall 2025;
Qatar Airways’ new route from Toronto is welcome news since my last Qsuite experience out of Montreal was lacklustre. While the ground service and lounge experience out of YYZ is unlikely to match Doha’s luxury, I hope it would be better than in YUL.
