Starting November 5, 2025, the WestJet RBC® Mastercard portfolio will undergo a set of changes aimed at expanding everyday earning opportunities, adding flexibility to the popular Companion Voucher, and strengthening insurance coverage. Let’s look at the details of the upcoming changes.
Upcoming Changes to WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard
Annual Fee and Earning Potential
From November 5, 2025, the annual fee will rise to $139 (the first time this new fee will be charged is December 1, 2025). Cardholders will also see three new accelerator categories added. In addition to earning 2 WestJet points per $1 on WestJet flights and vacations, cardholders will also earn 2 WestJet points per $1 on Sunwing Vacations, groceries, and gas/EV charging/transit/rideshare purchases. The flat rate of 1.5 WestJet points per $1 on all other spend will continue unchanged, with no earning caps on the new bonus categories. The new earning opportunities on the card will represent a significant improvement in earning potential.
Changes to Companion Voucher Flexibility
One of the card’s most popular benefits has long been the annual Companion Voucher, which today is valid for a round-trip journey starting at $119. There’s no minimum spend requirement, and for those not using it on flights, the voucher can be exchanged for four lounge passes.
Cardholders will still be able to use the Companion Voucher as they do now, but they will also gain new options to exchange against the voucher.
- 30% flight discount for solo travellers in economy
- $200 credit toward WestJet Vacations or Sunwing Vacations
- exchange for two lounge vouchers
At the same time, a new $5,000 annual spend requirement will be introduced starting in the second year of holding the card to receive a Companion Voucher. The welcome Companion Voucher remains unaffected, and all vouchers issued before November 2026 will be honoured under current terms.
Checked Bag Benefit and Enhanced Insurance Coverage
The first checked bag benefit remains intact, but with added clarity. Today, the cardholder and up to eight guests receive a free checked bag if the cardholder’s Rewards ID is added to the booking. Going forward, the same benefit applies only when the WestJet flight is both paid for using the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard and the Rewards ID is linked to the reservation. For frequent family or group travellers, this remains a valuable savings opportunity.
The card’s current insurance package includes travel accident, trip interruption, auto rental, purchase security, and extended warranty protections. Starting in November 2025, this will expand to cover trip cancellation insurance and mobile device insurance.

Upcoming Changes to WestJet RBC Mastercard
Often considered an entry point into WestJet’s co-branded credit card lineup, the card is also receiving a set of changes that will take effect on November 5, 2025. While the annual fee remains unchanged, the card is being retooled to offer broader earning categories, new flexibility with the Companion Voucher, and an additional insurance feature. The changes are positioned to better align with everyday spending patterns, while ensuring the card continues to serve as an attractive option for beginner and value-seeking travellers.
Earning Structure
Beginning November 5, 2025, in addition to earning 1.5 WestJet points per $1 on WestJet and Sunwing Vacations, cardholders will also earn 1.5 WestJet points per $1 on restaurant and food delivery purchases, and on digital subscriptions. All other purchases will continue to earn 1 WestJet point per $1, with no caps on the new accelerator categories.
Companion Voucher Flexibility
From November 2025, this benefit will gain new layers of flexibility. In addition to redeeming it as they do now, cardholders can choose to exchange their Companion Voucher for:
-
A 25% flight discount for solo travellers in economy, or

However, a key change will be the introduction of a $2,500 minimum annual spend requirement to receive the Companion Voucher starting in the second year of membership. The welcome voucher for new cardholders will not be affected, and all vouchers issued before November 2026 will be honoured under the current terms.
