Oh, what fun! I love it when a loyalty program entices its membership with a high-yield reward challenge. SAS recently joined the SkyTeam alliance and has introduced an exciting new promotion for EuroBonus members this fall. One million EuroBonus points are on the line for those who can explore the world with 15 different SkyTeam airlines. A promotion that is so juicy will make many change their behaviour.

Who Wants to be a EuroBonus Millionaire?

This promotion is all about rewarding you for flying with different SkyTeam airlines. The more airlines you fly with during the challenge period, the greater the rewards:

  • Fly with 5 different SkyTeam airlines – Earn 10,000 bonus EuroBonus points.
  • Fly with 10 different SkyTeam airlines – Earn 100,000 bonus EuroBonus points.
  • Fly with 15 different SkyTeam airlines – Earn 1 million bonus EuroBonus points.

The promotion is valid for flights between October 8 and December 31, 2024. Bookings made prior to the start of the challenge for flights within this travel period also count. Better yet, cash and award bookings all count towards the challenge.

To join the challenge, you need to register using the SAS app. When booking, it’s essential to ensure that you use your EuroBonus membership number and not another frequent flyer program’s number.

Other important details of the challenge:
  • Retroactive flight registration is allowed, but it must be submitted by December 20, 2024.
  • Each SkyTeam airline partner counts once, but if a single booking includes multiple SkyTeam airlines, it counts towards the total. For example, a trip with one leg on SAS and another on Delta would count as two airlines.
  • Only operating carriers count for the challenge, so ensure a SkyTeam partner operates the flight.
  • You’ll only be able to participate in this challenge once.
  • Bonus points (not Level points) will be awarded at the end of the campaign, and you’ll be notified of the outcome in January 2025.

My honest opinion is that the first two tiers of the challenge are not worth it, and the 1 Million point tier is where it’s at. This reminds me of Aeroplan’s popular Earn the Wings challenge and the hype and loyalty it generated amongst ardent flyers. This SAS promotion is the best of 2024 and may even be the best we have seen since 2020.

I will be doing this. I would have hit 8 or 9 of these airlines anyway during the next few weeks, and it helps that I was already planning on having some travel in West Asia, East Asia, Europe and North America anyway. Don’t expect hotels to add much to the cash outlay for me to do this since I have plenty of hotel points to use anyway and enough hotel status to get good breakfasts and lounge access all along the way. Economy class is just fine by me, but maybe I’ll finish with a Jakarta-Muscat-Frankfurt run in business class on OmanAir just because it’s cheap and beats paying for an economy class flight back to Europe from SE Asia.
