Aeroplan members can take advantage of an excellent opportunity to earn Status Qualifying Miles (SQM) toward Aeroplan Elite Status while supporting sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) initiatives. This limited-time promotion, running until October 25, 2025, allows members to contribute to SAF Environmental Attributes and receive SQM credits that count toward their 2026 status qualification.

Get up to 5,000 SQM by purchasing SAF attributes

Direct Link to Offer

For every 150 kg CO₂e of SAF Environmental Attributes purchased, members earn 500 SQM, credited to their Aeroplan account by December 1, 2025. Members can participate in increments of 150 kg CO₂e, up to a maximum of 5,000 SQM during the offer period. The pricing, including taxes, breaks down as follows:

  • 1,000 SQM (300 kg CO₂e) → $339.39 CAD

  • 2,000 SQM (600 kg CO₂e) → $677.96 CAD

  • 3,000 SQM (900 kg CO₂e) → $1,016.91 CAD

  • 4,000 SQM (1,200 kg CO₂e) → $1,355.88 CAD

  • 5,000 SQM (1,500 kg CO₂e) → $1,694.84 CAD

All purchases are final and non-refundable. After completing a transaction, members will receive an order confirmation with the corresponding SQM earned.

For members who find themselves short of their SQM threshold by year’s end, this promotion offers a convenient way to close the gap. To put the value in perspective, earning 5,000 SQM through a premium Aeroplan co-brand card, such as the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege, requires $25,000 in credit card spend (since the card awards 1,000 SQM per $5,000 spent). By comparison, this offer provides the same 5,000 SQM with a single purchase of $1,694.84 CAD.

This is not necessarily a path for everyone, but for members within reach of a desired status level, it is an efficient way to ensure qualification. Reminder that Aeroplan will be transitioning to a new status system starting January 1, 2026, where Status Qualifying Credits (SQC) will replace SQM, SQS, and SQD. Any rollover SQM from 2025 will convert into SQC at a ratio of 5 SQM = 1 SQC. Details of these changes can be found here.

What is SAF and Where Does Your Contribution Go?

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a non-conventional jet fuel made from renewable resources, often referred to as sustainable feedstocks. Unlike fossil-based jet fuel, SAF is produced from materials such as used cooking oil, animal waste fat, and agricultural or forestry residues. Chemically similar to conventional jet fuel, SAF can be safely blended into existing airport infrastructure and aircraft without modification. It offers a lower lifecycle carbon footprint while maintaining operational safety standards.

Through this promotion, members are not purchasing physical fuel for their flights. Instead, contributions support Air Canada’s broader voluntary use of SAF, beyond mandated levels. The SAF Environmental Attributes are provided in collaboration with Chooose AS, a company specializing in software solutions that enable the low-carbon fuel value chain.

While your contribution will not directly reduce the carbon footprint of your personal travel, it helps fund Air Canada’s long-term commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Over time, supporting SAF reduces reliance on conventional aviation fuel and helps accelerate the industry’s transition toward more sustainable practices.

Takeaway

This promotion provides Aeroplan members with a unique way to both support sustainability and strategically advance toward their Elite Status goals. For those who find themselves just shy of a status milestone, it may be a cost-effective option compared to traditional earning methods such as flight activity or credit card spend.

With the upcoming shift to Status Qualifying Credits in 2026, this offer also comes at a pivotal time, allowing members to maximize their 2025 qualification while contributing to Air Canada’s broader environmental objectives.
