Rejoice, December holiday travellers! Aeroplan has shared that starting this year, Elite Status will now be valid until January 31 of the following year instead of ending on December 31. The Aeroplan Status validity for an additional month ensures members enjoy uninterrupted benefits during the busy winter holiday travel season.  This change means that for 2024, Elite Status will automatically extend through January 31, 2025.

This extension is particularly beneficial for two groups of members:

  1. Members who secure their 2025 Elite Status by the end of 2024 will see their status extended until January 31, 2026, providing them with 13 months of benefits. Core and Select Benefits will be available by mid-January 2025, as usual.
  2. Members expecting a downgrade in 2025 will still enjoy their current 2024 Elite Status through January 31, 2025, giving them an additional month of benefits. The downgrade will take effect on February 1, 2025, with their new Core and Select Benefits available by mid-February.

The extension will be applied automatically, and no action is needed from members. Aeroplan will begin extending the expiry dates of Elite Status in December and will process these changes in batches until January 1, 2025.

Aeroplan Status Qualification Period

It’s important to note that while the Aeroplan Status validity has been extended, the qualification period remains unchanged. You’ll still need to meet the required activities between January 1 and December 31 of a given year to earn or maintain your status. This new extension mainly benefits members expecting a downgrade, ensuring they continue enjoying their travel perks during the peak holiday season.

For members who currently hold Elite Status based on their 2023 earnings, this new policy means that, instead of losing their benefits at the end of December 2024, they will retain them until the end of January 2025. On February 1, their status will reflect their activities from 2024.

Takeaway

The introduction of this extended validity period is a thoughtful response to feedback from the Aeroplan community, addressing the common concern of losing status during a critical travel time. By providing an extra month of Elite Status, Aeroplan ensures that members can focus on their travels without the stress of an impending downgrade during one of the year’s busiest travel periods.
