The Preferred Partnership Program between Marriott Bonvoy and Aeroplan has launched a unique opportunity for members to enjoy status matches across both loyalty programs. Specifically, Aeroplan members with 50K, 75K, or Super Elite status will receive complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status. Meanwhile, Marriott Bonvoy members with Titanium Elite or Ambassador Elite status will be awarded Aeroplan 25K status. This partnership also includes the ability for Aeroplan Elite Status members to convert their Aeroplan points into Marriott Bonvoy points at a 1:1 ratio. Marriott Bonvoy members can convert their points into Aeroplan points at a 3:1 ratio and earn an additional 5,000 bonus for every 60,000 Bonvoy points converted.

Marriott Bonvoy and Aeroplan Status Match

a close up of a card

To take advantage of this status match, participants must be members of both Aeroplan and Marriott Bonvoy programs. Here’s what’s on the table;

  • Aeroplan 50K, 75K, and Super Elite members are eligible for Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status.
  • Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite and Ambassador Elite members qualify for Aeroplan 25K status.

Members who hold lower tiers, such as Aeroplan 25K, 35K, or Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite, Gold Elite, or Silver Elite, are not eligible for this status match. It’s important to note that if you already hold a higher status in either program, you won’t be able to register for the status match.

How to Register for the Offer

Members must link their Marriott Bonvoy and Aeroplan accounts to participate in the Preferred Partnership Program and request complimentary status. Aeroplan members who meet the eligibility criteria can register for Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status on the Air Canada website.

My Aeroplan Offer: 50k Status to Bonvoy Gold Elite Status

Marriott Bonvoy members who qualify for Aeroplan 25K status must register their request on the Marriott Bonvoy platform. Once registered, members should allow 7-10 business days for their new status to be reflected in their accounts.

Other Important Details of the Offer:

  • Complimentary statuses obtained through this program cannot be combined or stacked with any other qualification requirements to achieve a higher elite status in either program. Through this partnership, members who are granted Aeroplan 25K or Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status must meet the respective program’s standard criteria to advance to higher levels.
  • Only one Aeroplan account can be linked to one Marriott Bonvoy account at a time, and accounts must be in good standing to qualify. Members can de-link their accounts anytime, but doing so will lose the complimentary status benefits.

Who can benefit from the Status Match offer

The Marriott Bonvoy and Aeroplan status match can be lucrative for Aeroplan Elite members (50k and above) who did not hold Marriott Bonvoy Gold status through regular stays or a premium card like the American Express Platinum card. Members status matching to Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite can look forward to perks like 2 p.m. late checkout and enhanced room upgrades (subject to availability).

Similarly, Marriott members who did not hold any status with Aeroplan can start their Elite journey with an Aeroplan 25k status, entitling them to perks like Priority check-in, boarding and seat selection, and two free checked bags.

Aeroplan and Marriott – Two-way points conversion

The preferred partnership program between the two programs also allows you to transfer points between Marriott and Aeroplan.

  • Members can transfer Aeroplan points to Marriott Bonvoy (1:1). For readers of this website, this is a poor conversion rate, and I cannot recommend it unless you are looking to top up your Bonvy account urgently for a specific redemption.

  • Members can also transfer their Bonvoy points to Aeroplan (3:1). Until October 31, 2024, members can earn 15% bonus Aeroplan points in addition to the 5,000 bonus Aeroplan points earned for every 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points converted.
Takeaway

It’s good to see that the preferred partnership between the two brands continues to mature meaningfully. While the current Marriott Bonvoy and Aeroplan Status Match may not bring outsized value, it is a measured approach toward providing incremental value for members in both programs.
