MGM Rewards and World of Hyatt partnership ending in September

This time for real, the strategic relationship between MGM Rewards and World of Hyatt is ending on September 30, 2023. MGM Resorts confirmed the news through a media release on their website, which reads;

After careful consideration, MGM Resorts and World of Hyatt have decided to end their strategic relationship effective September 30, 2023.

As a World of Hyatt Globalist, I can attest that this news is heartbreaking. The partnership provided easy status match opportunities to its members, unlocking exclusive perks like discounts on room rates, waived resort fees, room upgrades, Qualifying Night credit towards WoH elite status, etc.  RIP to mattress run meetups as well, sigh.

MGM Rewards and World of Hyatt partnership – New Reservations

Hyatt members can continue to make new reservations at participating MGM Resorts destinations with checkout dates before or on September 30, 2023.  Past that, members will no longer be able to make new reservations through Hyatt channels or add their World of Hyatt number to their stays.

All existing Award Night and Points + Cash redemption reservations at MGM Resorts before September 30, 2023, will be honoured. After September 30, 2023, Hyatt members will no longer be able to redeem World of Hyatt points for stays at MGM Resorts destinations, nor be eligible to earn World of Hyatt points or World of Hyatt Tier-Qualifying Nights for such stays where checkout is after September 30, 2023.

Note MGM Rewards members can still earn MGM Rewards Points and MGM Rewards Tier Credits for all eligible spending charged back to the folio in connection with such stays. Please ensure your MGM Rewards number is added to the hotel folio at check-in.

MGM Rewards and World of Hyatt partnership – Existing Reservations

All reservations at MGM Resorts booked through Hyatt channels before September 30, 2023, will be honoured. Eligible stays with checkout dates before or on September 30, 2023, will earn World of Hyatt points and Tier-Qualifying Night credits. However, for stays with checkouts after September 30, 2023, World of Hyatt members will no longer be eligible to earn points or Qualifying Night credits.

MGM Rewards members will continue to earn MGM Rewards Points and MGM Rewards Tier Credits for all eligible spending charged to the folio.

Members still waiting on points/nights to post for a past stay can request retroactive credit up to twelve (12) months after a stay is completed for stays completed at MGM Resorts by September 30, 2023. Members can contact MGM Rewards Member Services at MemberServices@mgmresorts.com or call 866.761.7111 and provide their full name, property visited, dates of stay, MGM Rewards number, and World of Hyatt number.

MGM Rewards and World of Hyatt partnership – Tier Match still possible

World of Hyatt members who tier-matched into MGM Rewards between February 1, 2023, and July 14, 2023, will receive their tier-match status through January 31, 2024. Members have three more days to lock in the tier match if they have not done so already. The highest tier members can match is MGM Gold.

MGM Rewards Gold members who achieved their Tier Status through the tier match benefit between February 1, 2023, and July 14, 2023, will waive their resort fees for direct bookings made through MGM Resorts through January 31, 2024.

World of Hyatt members can request retroactive credit up to twelve (12) months after a stay is completed for stays completed at MGM Resorts destinations in Las Vegas by September 30, 2023. It does not surprise me that the most lucrative partnership for World of Hyatt members is ending.  I say Adios, with the fondest memories of resort fee waiver, room upgrades, and Comp nights.
