Booking Moxy Lisboa Oriente
Between February and late April each year, Marriott typically runs its Double Elite Night promotion, which allows members to earn two elite night credits for every paid night. This promotion has become a key planning tool for me, particularly for short, efficient trips that help move the needle toward Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite, which requires 75 elite nights in a calendar year. Titanium status also unlocks additional perks, including status matches to Aeroplan 25K and United Silver.
With this promotion in mind, I planned a short trip to Lisbon, Portugal, a city I had yet to explore. The outbound flight was on Air Canada Economy and was largely uneventful. I returned via Frankfurt on Lufthansa Business Class, which was a first for me and an experience I’ll be writing about separately.

Moxy Lisboa Oriente, from across the street
For this trip, I intentionally chose a reasonably priced Marriott property that aligned with the purpose of the stay, and I booked the 3-star Moxy Lisboa Oriente. The three-night cash stay cost €258 and, thanks to the promotion, earned me six elite night credits and an additional 1,000 bonus points per night. I reduced the out-of-pocket cost further by paying with Marriott gift cards purchased during an American Express offer that provided a 25% discount. Once all was said and done, the effective cost came out to roughly €65 per night.
Location and Getting There
The location of Moxy Lisboa Oriente is one of its strongest attributes. From Lisbon Airport, the hotel was an easy, quick Uber ride for €8, with a clearly designated pickup area at the airport.
The hotel sits directly beside the Lisbon Oriente Transit Terminal, which makes it especially appealing for travellers who plan to rely on trains or buses. If you’re considering day trips to other Portuguese cities, the central bus station is directly across the street from the hotel. During my stay, I took advantage of this by doing a FlixBus day trip, and after a long journey, it was incredibly convenient to cross the street and be back at the hotel.

There is also a shopping mall within a five-minute walk of the property, much of it underground, which I discovered while exploring the area. The mall includes a food court with most of the familiar fast-food options, making it easy to grab something quick without venturing far.
First Impressions and Check-In
Check-in was seamless and efficient. One aspect of the Moxy brand that consistently stands out is its staff, and this location was no exception. The team was knowledgeable, attentive, and tech-savvy, with a solid understanding of both the hotel and the surrounding area. This was my second stay at a Moxy property, having previously stayed at the Moxy near Paris Disneyland during my French Open trip.

Moxy Lisboa – Lobby and Reception Area
Ahead of arrival, I notified the hotel through the Marriott app that I would be paying with gift cards. Unlike many properties that settle bills at checkout, this Moxy settles the bill at check-in. The gift card payment process was refreshingly smooth and far easier than other stays, where processing can take well over an hour.
The reception desk doubles as both the bar and the coffee station, a defining feature of the Moxy brand. The best way to describe it is that it feels like walking into a local bar, complete with beer taps behind the bar. The reception staff also act as bartenders and baristas, reinforcing the casual, social atmosphere. As a Titanium Elite member, I was offered a welcome gift and opted for a complimentary breakfast rather than points.

Moxy Check-in Bar
The lobby is designed as an open, social space. As you enter through the revolving doors, a foosball table sits to the left, while cabana-style lounge chairs are positioned to the right. A bright neon pink gorilla statue greets guests at the entrance, immediately signalling that this is a hotel geared toward a younger, more social crowd. To the left of the reception desk is a small marketplace offering snacks, drinks, juices, wine, and light food items. To the right is a wooden bar counter with several seats, followed by communal tables and additional seating areas further into the space. At the back of the lobby is a large television, with washrooms located behind it, and the breakfast area is positioned just off to the side.

Moxy Lisboa Oriente – Additional Seating
While some might loosely describe the vibe as “backpacker-style,” this is very clearly a Marriott hotel and not a hostel. The main floor encourages interaction and conversation, making it particularly appealing for solo travellers. Guests are also given a complimentary welcome drink, which can be redeemed on any night during the stay.

Lobby View
Moxy Sleeper Room – City View
As is typical with the Moxy brand (Moxy Chelsea NYC Review), room upgrades are essentially not part of the experience, though I did request a city-view room at check-in. While this category was priced slightly higher than the room I originally booked, the view itself was pretty unremarkable.
My room was located on the 10th floor. Like most Moxy rooms, it was compact but intelligently designed to maximize the available space. Upon entering, there were hooks and hangers on the right for clothes, as there are no traditional drawers or wardrobes. To the left was the bathroom, which included a toilet, sink, and shower in a small but efficiently laid-out space.

Moxy Sleeper Room – Twin Beds
The sleeping area featured two twin beds that were very firm and provided a comfortable night’s sleep. There was a flat-screen television and multiple charging points conveniently placed near the bed. As expected for this brand, there was no fridge or microwave in the room. Overall, the room was very similar to what I experienced at the Moxy near Paris Disneyland.

Room amenities

Moxy Lisboa – Bathroom and Toilet
This is not a hotel intended for long-term stays. It is best suited for short visits, long layovers, or trips where the room is primarily used to sleep and freshen up rather than to spend extended time enjoying in-room amenities.

Moxy Lisboa Oriente – Breakfast
Breakfast is served daily from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. During my stay, the spread included a mix of cold items such as cheeses, cold cuts, yogurt, and fruit, alongside hot options like scrambled eggs and Canadian bacon. There were also pastries, fresh breads, pancakes, multiple cereal options, and a selection of beverages, including juices, water, and coffee.

Limited breakfast options

Hot breakfast – Scrambled Eggs
While the breakfast was perfectly adequate, it did not stand out. Compared to my previous stay at a Moxy property in Paris, this offering felt noticeably weaker. In my view, it was also a step down from what is often offered at Fairfield Inn by Marriott properties.
Other Amenities – Gym and Bus Station
The gym is located on the first floor above the reception desk. It is small but functional, with a limited selection of cardio machines, free weights, a pulley weight machine, a punching bag, yoga mats, and exercise balls. There is also a water dispenser available. While basic, it gets the job done if you’re looking to stay active during your trip.

Moxy Lisboa – Gym
On the same floor, around the corner from the gym, there is a quieter seating area that overlooks the lobby. This space offers a more relaxed environment and is a nice option if you’re looking to unwind away from the activity on the main floor.
Although not officially a hotel amenity, the proximity to the Oriente Bus Station deserves special mention. Its location directly across the street was a major convenience and added significant practical value to the stay, especially after returning from a long bus journey.
Is Moxy Lisboa Oriente worth a Status Run?
From an amenities standpoint, Moxy Lisboa Oriente is a limited property, and overall, I would rate it a 6 out of 10 for a 3-star hotel. The room was small, the storage space was minimal, and the bathroom could have been slightly larger. Breakfast, while included, could undoubtedly be improved.
That said, at €65 per night, this stay represented excellent value, particularly when factoring in the double elite night credits, the points earned, and the hotel’s outstanding location next to Lisbon’s central transit hub. In addition to the elite night credits, the stay earned just over 7,000 Marriott Bonvoy points for the three nights, representing approximately a 4.8% return on a stay that ultimately cost under €200. From both a points-earning and status-building perspective, this stay offered excellent value.
The hotel’s greatest strength is its staff, who are youthful, approachable, and genuinely helpful. One moment that stood out was at check-in, when I asked about a bus schedule and was told, “Let me look that up for you,” followed by a clear answer within thirty seconds.

Moxy Lisboa Oriente
If you’re visiting Lisbon, be sure to take advantage of the city’s incredible food and wine scene. This trip was essentially a foodie-focused visit for me, and I had the opportunity to dine at Michelin-star restaurants, thoroughly enjoying Portuguese cuisine.
Boa viagem! ✈️
