Booking Crowne Plaza Changi Airport

During a recent layover in Singapore, I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, located within Terminal 3 of Changi Airport. Known as the World’s Best Airport Hotel, it has held this title for nine consecutive years in the Skytrax World Airport Awards, and it’s easy to see why. Its direct connection to all airport terminals, the renowned Jewel Changi Airport, and its spectacular Rain Vortex, the tallest indoor waterfall in the world, make it an ideal stopover choice. For my overnight stay, I booked through Amex Travel at a rate of $420 CAD per night, offset by a $200 travel credit, making the steep cost more manageable.

The hotel currently offers a Cyber Exclusive Sale for IHG One Rewards members, with a 25% discount for bookings made by December 3, 2024, for stays between November 23, 2024, and April 30, 2025.

Getting there and Check-in

Upon arriving from Ho Chi Minh City at Terminal 3, I followed the marked signs to the Crowne Plaza Hotel. For those who may not spot the signs initially, heading toward the Jewel will also lead you to the hotel’s entrance. A short five-minute walk brought me to the lower-level entrance of the hotel, which leads directly to the Level 1 check-in area.

The check-in process was smooth, and I was assigned a Deluxe King Bedroom on the 10th floor in the Jewel Wing. To reach my room, I took the escalator to Level 2, navigated through long corridors past the hotel’s only restaurant, and accessed the secure Jewel Wing using my room key. The journey to the room was slightly tedious, but the security measures were reassuring.

King Bed Room – 1062

My room, 1062, was a Deluxe King Bedroom featuring a king-sized bed, separate bath, and walk-in shower. The design efficiently utilized the available space, with a dedicated work desk and sectional sofas creating distinct working and living areas. However, the lack of a view from the room was a letdown—the only view was from the bathroom, which overlooked another wing of the hotel.

The amenities in the room were standard but well-executed, including elevated bathroom products and a spacious, modern bathroom that stood out as the room’s highlight. While the overall layout and functionality were commendable, the hefty $420 CAD price tag felt disproportionate to the experience, particularly considering the absence of a more captivating view.

Dining Options

The hotel’s sole restaurant, Allora Ristorante and Bar, specializes in Italian cuisine but also offers an extensive in-room dining menu with Asian and international options. For breakfast, I used the hotel’s app to order the Local Breakfast Set, priced at $27.50. The set included Chicken Nasi Lemak, Singaporean Bun toast, boiled eggs, fruits, and coffee, and it exceeded my expectations with its quality and variety.

Other Services and Facilities

The Crowne Plaza offers a range of amenities, including a club lounge, an outdoor resort-style pool, a fitness center, and a small garden serving as a smoking area. During my stay, I took advantage of the outdoor pool, which, despite partially under construction, provided a relaxing environment with lush greenery that belied the typical airport hotel atmosphere.

Takeaway

Staying at the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport is undeniably a premium experience, albeit at a premium price. Its strategic location between the airport terminals and the Jewel makes it convenient for travellers seeking seamless connectivity and access to world-class entertainment and retail spaces. The option to book day rooms hourly is an excellent feature for business travellers with long layovers who wish to maximize productivity.

While the room fell short of my expectations regarding value for money, the hotel’s amenities, dining options, and unparalleled location underscore why it remains a popular choice among travellers. If you’re willing to invest in the experience, the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport offers a blend of comfort, convenience, and connectivity that’s hard to match.
