During last couple of visits to St. John’s, I never gave myself enough time at the airport to visit the Air Canada lounge St. John’s. I finally managed to arrive with an hour to spare and soak in all that the lounge has to offer.
Location and Access
The Air Canada lounge St. John’s (YYT) in Newfoundland is located on level 2, above gates 1-2. The lounge serves both domestic and International passengers.
As per Air Canada’s policies, following passengers can access the lounge;
- Business Class Ticket Holders
- Air Canada Maple Leaf Club Members
- Altitude Super Elite 100K, Elite 75K and Elite 50K Members
- Star Alliance Gold Members
- Holders of American Express AeroplanPlus Reserve, Platinum or Corporate Platinum Card
- Customers Travelling on a Latitude or Flex Fare
The self scan and enter system at the lounge is pretty nifty. A few taps on the screen, scan your boarding pass and the gates open to welcome you in the lounge.
With a self serve scan and access system, it was no surprise to see a few folks walk-in behind others without scanning their boarding passes. The one staff member in the lounge was a hawk (in a good way) and did a spectacular job of politely asking them to scan and enter the premises.
Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge – St. John’s (YYT), Newfoundland
The lounge. No really, I mean this was it (pic below), the entire lounge seating. For a lounge that serves domestic and international passengers, it was very small and crowded. While I was lucky to grab a seat, many others that followed did not. That I was there in August/September, which is a peak tourist season, may have exaggerated the capacity constraints.
Having said that the lounge itself was clean, well lit and inviting with great views of the runway.
For a small lounge, the drinks options were aplenty. Food situation was more the Soup and Salad kind, which is quite adequate. Great by North American business lounge standards.
The Air Canada charging stations which are now a staple at every Maple leaf Lounge is pretty handy and something I find myself making use of on a regular basis.
The reading section was light but with a weak stocked bar and fridge, not many seem to care π The lounge also included a four station business centre with printing facilities.
Take Away
Another Maple leaf lounge checked off from my list. At first the lounge did seem rather crammed and constrained but factoring in the seasonal nature of the business on the island, it is safe to assume that the lounge is adequate for most needs. Air Canada lounge St. John’s follows the Maple Leaf branding closely and does a great job in serving the warm hearted Newfie’s and their guests.
