I have to be honest, as a Marriott Bonvoy brand, Moxy has really grown on me. After dismissing it initially as a hipster brand that was trying too hard, I now embrace it for the uniqueness and eccentricity of each location. Moxy NYC Chelsea is a boutique hotel located in the iconic flower district and embodies its local NewYork-Italian heritage. With a full service Italian restaurant, a Pizza Bar, an Italian themed Cafe, and two bars including The Fleur Room – a cocktail lounge on the 35th floor offering sweeping 360° views of the city, Moxy NYC Chelsea is a lot more than your standard Moxy experience.
Just before New York (and rest of US) was brought down by COVID-19, I made a quick weekend jaunt to meet with family and friends in the city. A cash rate of $179 for a leap day (Feb 29th, 2020) Saturday, won my wallet’s vote of confidence 🙂
Not that I needed a reminder, but that I entered the hotel through a curated flower shop and walked into a ‘Meet and Greet’ section where check-in desks were suspended from the ceiling, was very ‘Moxy’. I was ‘hooked up’ with a King bed room, with views of the Empire State building as my #windowview.
My king-bed room was cozy and functional, with plenty of space (for NYC standards) with wall pegs, hangers, foldable chairs, steamer, a wall mounted tv with streaming services and good WiFi connectivity. Here is a quick tour of the room and hotel amenities;
While the hotel does not have a traditional lobby restaurant or lounge for breakfast, coffee is always on the house in Bar Feroce, on the second floor from 7-11AM daily. The second-floor lobby also transformed from coffee spot to funky beats and a cocktail crowd at night.
Feroce Cafe, located by the main entrance, is a roman-style cafe and pasticceria. It also doubles as a breakfast and brunch spot for hotel guests.
As much as I wanted to, I was unable to experience everything this awesome hotel had to offer. I could have easily spent the entire weekend experiencing the amenities at the hotel, including the complimentary access to ‘Fleur Room’ cocktail lounge which offers stunning NYC views. I will definitely return to the Moxy NYC Chelsea to explore the elements I missed out on. One night at this spectacular property was just not enough.
