We just had Aeroplan Redemption Days, and now, an even better Aeroplan promotion has popped up. The catch is that it’s for Elite members only, but it doesn’t appear to be targeted otherwise.

Save 20,000 Points on Car Rentals & Hotels
As usual, car rentals and hotels are the most interesting of the non-flight redemption options.
Aeroplan is discounting car rentals and hotels (through HotelSavers) by 20,000 points with a minimum redemption of 70,000 points. This is a 28.57% discount, which is a higher discount for hotels than we saw last week with the Redemption Days promotion at 20%.
This does check out, as this time around, it’s for Elite members only. Use code ELITE20K26 to take advantage. Aeroplan automatically applies the discount when your cart contains more than 50,000 points’ worth of eligible items in the Aeroplan travel portal. More importantly, you pay the discounted rate upfront rather than waiting for a rebate afterwards.
Maximizing the Aeroplan 20,000-Point Discount
Since the discount is a flat rate, the optimal redemption is right at 70,000 points. You can use the code as many times as you want, so it’s best to redeem in chunks of 70,000 points if you’re redeeming a hefty amount of points.
Stack the Discount With 4th Night Free
Remember that Aeroplan also offers 4th night free for Aeroplan co-branded credit card holders, which is stackable with this promotion.
Unlike some other programs, Aeroplan calculates your free night based on the average cost of the other nights rather than simply making the cheapest night free. For example, if two nights cost 15,000 points each and the other two nights cost 20,000 points, for a total of 70,000 points, you can expect to pay 52,500 points for 4 nights.

Stack with 4th night free
The Fairmont Waterfront was $471/night, but only 26,250 Aeroplan points per night with 4th night free, making for a redemption of 1.79 cents per point – but it gets better. This is only with 4th night free, and the price drops to 85,000 points total for four nights after the promotion is added in. Stacking the ELITE20K26 discount with 4th night free makes for a CPP of 2.2, which is more than respectable.

With the stacking, note the 20,000-point discount kicks in after the free night already kicks in, so you won’t get 20,000 points off if 4th-night-free drops the total under 70,000 points.
While the car rental redemptions offer the same deal with 20,000 points back (28% off 70,000 points), keep in mind credit card insurance coverage only kicks in if the price of the rental is charged to the card. Some credit cards offer insurance coverage for award flights, but it’s very cut-and-dried for car rentals.
Get 20,000 Points Off Gift Cards, Merchandise, and Air Canada Vacations Packages
When redeeming for gift cards and merchandise, use code ELITE20K-JXIP-FTNS. The discount is the same 20,000 points off a 70,000+ point redemption. Because redeeming Aeroplan points for gift cards wasn’t a great option in the first place, the discount doesn’t swing the needle much — the best use for this promotion is firmly for hotels.
But if you want to turn your Aeroplan points into SQC, a roundabout way of doing that is redeeming your points towards an Air Canada gift card and this 20,000-point discount will come in handy here to bring the redemption value above 1 cent per point. For example, you can redeem 74,000 Aeroplan points for a $1,000 Air Canada eGift Card.

As always, redeeming your points for premium cabin flights is going to offer the highest value, but honestly, 2.2 cents for a hotel redemption is pretty good, and you don’t need the song and dance of hunting for award space. I suppose redeeming for an eGift card at 1.35 CPP isn’t terrible if you are spending lots of money with Air Canada for Elite status reasons and have plenty of Aeroplan to spare; it’s still better than redeeming for merchandise and some dynamically priced fares.

Takeaway
If you’re an Aeroplan Elite member, this is one of the best non-flight redemption promotions we’ve seen from Aeroplan. While we’d still reserve most Aeroplan points for premium cabin flights, stacking a 20,000-point discount with the 4th-night-free benefit can produce genuinely strong value on HotelSavers bookings, sometimes exceeding 2 cents per point.
Beyond hotels, the promotion is much less compelling. Car rentals come with the downside of giving up credit card insurance, while gift cards and merchandise remain mediocre uses of Aeroplan points despite the discount. If you have a HotelSavers stay planned, though, this is absolutely a promotion worth taking advantage of before it ends on August 10.

Do reservations made through this way via Hotelsavers on Marriott or even Hilton count towards getting your elite nights towards status with the hotel?
HotelSavers partner brands do not include Marriott ot Hilton as such. But does have SLH, etc., where you could add your Hilton# to the booking by calling the property (elite benefits not guaranteed).
