Air Canada seems to be on a fast track of ‘network expansion’. Adding to its recent codeshare agreements with Virgin Australia and Cathay Pacific, Air Canada has now formed an interline agreement with Fort Lauderdale, Florida based Silver Airways.

What is an interline agreement?

Interline agreements, different than codeshare agreements, allow passengers to book and travel through the entire network on a single ticket. It also allows passengers to complete  the entire trip without having to gather bags or check-in again.

The agreement includes Silver Airways’ Florida and Bahamas network (does not include Cuba network).

Meanwhile, Air Canada’s network in Florida and Bahamas is fairly limited;

This agreement will allow Canadian ‘snow birds’ to leverage more than 20 destinations Silver Airways serves in Florida and Bahamas. Conversely, Silver Airways fliers can leverage plethora of Canadian cities served by Air Canada and its affiliates.

While the agreement allows passengers a larger network on a single ticket, it does not include reciprocal frequent flyer benefitsas confirmed by Silver Airways spokeswoman, Misty Pinson.

Final Thoughts:

As a Canadian resident, I am excited to learn about the network expansion and the options it opens for me and fellow Canadians. Truth be told, I had never heard of Silver Airways before this news broke. Now, I am excited to give it a try and also add other smaller destinations in Bahamas on my travel list.

Have you flown Silver Airways before? What do you think about this new partnership?

I have flown with Silver Airways as recently as two weeks ago because of their network to the Bahamas. They aren’t the most reliable airline (frequent delays and cancelations), but they do allow you to connect through major Floridian airports to get to more remote islands in the Bahamas. I have used them to fly to Marsh Harbour (MHH) for quite a few years. Really great that I can now fly all the way from Canada on the same ticket.

Thanks for sharing Gabriel! Whats the situation with baggage limits and seat comfort on Silver’s flights?

Well, getting Canadian Immigration is not a big deal anymore if you have certain set of skills. Canadian immigration is a perfect way to get immigration. They are offering it for free because they need a lot of men to boost their economy.

Thanks for dropping a line Zeeshan. Not sure I follow your point though, my post was about an interline agreement between AC and Silver airways. Also, “Canadian immigration is easy”, is an urban myth..
