At Hong Kong International Airport, Cathay Pacific is home to seven distinct lounges, including two First Class lounges. The Pier, Business class lounge is the largest of the five business lounges, and located in Terminal 1 near gate 65. The lounge is a homage to the city itself, and boasts an eclectic mix of modern and traditional features, in both food and decor. It features the ever popular Noodle Bar, an elegant Tea house, a food hall, shower rooms and relaxation area along with several styles of seating arrangements, across the lounge. This is my review of the Cathay Pacific The Pier Business Class Lounge;

Cathay Pacific – The Pier, Business Class Lounge

The entrance and the check-in area to the lounge is welcoming with natural wood panels and splashes of potted greens. The decor is elegant, the staff polite and attentive. A quick scan of the boarding pass and I was in the lounge – setup in a long terminal with restaurants and cafes aligned to the left and corresponding thematic seating on the right.

The layout of the lounge is as listed on the entrance panel – Fool Hall followed by Bar, a Noodle Bar, Teahouse and then showers and Relaxation rooms at the end.

Food Hall

The food hall is a contemporary section in the lounge with pre-cooked food, grab and go sandwiches etc – think a deli style market. It also features a coffee cart (not pictured) for the rushed passenger.

Bar

The Pier bar is a classy hang out spot that serves a myriad of concoctions for all taste buds. The bartender doubled as a barista, for those in need of caffeine fix.

Area across from the bar had plenty of comfortable seating and an elegant decor of wood paneling and splashes of green potted plants.

The Noodle Bar

Easily the busiest of all sections in the lounge. The Noodle Bar features a mouthwatering menu of hand made noodles (made to order) and Chinese steamed buns. The seating was thematic and included family-syle booths with bamboo meshed decor – classic!

The Tea House

Quintessential to Hong Kong culture, the Tea house was my favorite area in the lounge. It was serene and had the perfect lighting to relax the senses with a warm pot of tea accompanied by dim-sum and desserts.

Shower Rooms

My favorite lounge amenity is a good shower room. Cathay Pacific The Pier Business Class lounge has 14 shower suites with premium bath products, by Aesop (Australian Skin care brand).

Relaxation Area

Last but not least, the lounge has a large section towards the end, dedicated to lounge chairs, plush sofas and semi private sleeping pods. The area is secluded and truly offers a quite retreat in the lounge.

Take Away

My flight to Mumbai was scheduled to depart from Gate 2, smack opposite to Cathay Pacific The Wing lounge. I am glad I went out of my way to relax at The Pier lounge instead. Cathay Pacific The Pier Business Lounge is everything a lounge should be and much more. The ambiance, decor, staff and food could give many First Class lounges a run for their money. If you have enough time on hand and had to pick between one of the five business lounges in Hong Kong International airport, The Pier should definitely be the choice.
