Why We Love Aeroplan Points
Aeroplan remains one of the most versatile loyalty currencies available to Canadians. Points can be redeemed across Air Canada, Star Alliance, and a broad collection of non-alliance airline partners, opening the door to everything from short-haul economy flights to aspirational business and first class awards.
As examples, here are bookings I’ve made in the past month:
- One-way Toronto to Miami in Air Canada economy for 10,900 points + $124.74 CAD
- One-way New York JFK to Frankfurt on Singapore Airlines business class for 60,000 points + $79.30 CAD
- One-way Tokyo to New York JFK on ANA first class for 120,000 points + $148.20 CAD

Book ANA first class with Aeroplan points
TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege – Cardholder Benefits
The TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card carries a steep $599 annual fee, but it is the best airline co-branded credit card in Canada for frequent Air Canada flyers.
Beyond priority airport services, free checked bags, Maple Leaf Lounge access within North America, and six Visa Airport Companion lounge visits, the card offers several benefits tied to Aeroplan Elite Status. Cardholders earn 1,000 Status Qualifying Credits (SQC) for every $5,000 spent, up to 25,000 SQC per year, receive a 10% rollover of the previous year’s SQC, and can use newly issued eUpgrade credits for an additional 12 months.
The card has also become significantly more valuable through the Aeroplan and World of Hyatt partnership. After linking their accounts, cardholders receive complimentary World of Hyatt Discoverist status, five tier-qualifying night credits each year, and access to a 90-day status challenge that can unlock Globalist after only 20 qualifying nights. They also earn two Aeroplan points and two bonus Hyatt points per eligible dollar spent at participating Hyatt properties.
Altogether, these benefits make the card particularly compelling for travellers who are loyal to Air Canada, interested in earning Aeroplan Elite Status, or able to take advantage of the newly added Hyatt benefits.
Takeaway
TD has increased the welcome bonuses on the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege and Visa Infinite Cards, while maintaining the existing offer on the Platinum Card.
The Visa Infinite Privilege Card leads the pack with up to 100,000 Aeroplan points, alongside a strong collection of Air Canada, Aeroplan Elite Status, and World of Hyatt benefits. Meanwhile, the Visa Infinite and Platinum Cards offer more accessible ways to build an Aeroplan balance, with both waiving the annual fee for the first year.
As a cherry on top, Visa Concierge is also surprisingly useful; I particularly enjoy the fitness & spa offers.
