Happy Valentine’s day! Let me tell you about my new found love – Porter Airlines E195-E2 🙂 My recent experience on Porter Airlines E195-E2 has me convinced that Porter is not only elevating economy flying experience in North America, but it will eventually force the competitors to offer better service as well. Bring dignity back to economy travel. In addition, Porter’s recent announcement of their new hub in Ottawa International Airport (YOW), my hometown, has me following new route announcements and developments very closely.

Based on scavenging aviation threads on FlyertalkSkyscraperpage, and twitter, Porter is all set to announce the following new routes out of their new hub in YOW, soon;

  • Ottawa (YOW) – Vancouver (YVR)
  • Ottawa (YOW) – Calgary (YYC)
  • Ottawa (YOW) – Edmonton (YEG)

These routes will be flown on the new E195-E2 of course, thanks to the excellent range of the aircraft. Once the YOW-YVR route is operational, it will become Porter’s longest domestic non-stop service in Canada. Their current longest route is Toronto (YYZ) – Vancouver (YVR). There was quite a bit of unofficial chatter about the YOW-YVR route during the inaugural YVR-YYZ service on Feb 7th as well. While there is no official confirmation from Porter on these routes, they did officially announce a direct flight service starting May 17,. 2023, between;

  • Ottawa (YOW) – Charlottetown (YYG)

The daily non-stop flight to Charlottetown (YYG), PEI, will be on the De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft. Porter currently serves Moncton (YQM), Fredericton (YFC), Halifax (YHZ) and St. John’s, N.L. (YYT), in the region, and now have an impressive presence in Atlantic Canada. Combined with the new routes out west, Porter has truly shed its regional tag. A recap of all the inaugural routes scheduled for the month of February, from Toronto YYZ;

With the new Embraer E195-E2, the following US route expansions are also on the cards, according to Ishrion Aviation;

  • Los Angeles (LAX)
  • Las Vegas (LAS)
  • San Francisco (SFO)
  • Orlando (MCO)
  • Fort Lauderdale (FLL)

While there is no formal announcements on the above US routes, I am giddy about the possibilities with Porter Airlines network in Canada and US. Bring it on, Porter, and watch out competitors!
