As of early October 2026, World of Hyatt is making a significant change to its promotion that offers extra points for stays at new properties. Historically, you earned 500 bonus points per qualifying night at participating new properties, but the Hyatt new hotel promo now offers double points on eligible rates.

The proof is in the pudding, and “eligible rates” is the part we should pay attention to.

Hyatt’s New Hotel Promo: Double Points Instead of 500 Bonus Points

Direct Link to the Promotion

In the recent past, Hyatt has always offered 500 bonus points per qualifying night when members stay at new properties. Hyatt called it “500 Reasons to Stay,” and it was a nice incentive to try new places.

Since October 1, 2026, Hyatt is replacing “500 Reasons to Stay” with “New Hotel Member Bonus Offer,” where members who book the eligible rate earn 2X World of Hyatt points on every $1 USD spent on eligible rates and incidental charges. The standard World of Hyatt Base Points still apply, along with any Elite tier bonuses.

Hyatt “New Hotel Member Bonus Offer”

The following fine print applies:

  • Members must book the “New Hotel Member Bonus Offer” rate
  • Up to three rooms per stay, including the member’s room, will count toward the offer
  • Consecutive nights at the same hotel booked on the New Hotel Member Bonus Offer rate count as one stay, even if the member checks out and checks back in
  • Members must be enrolled in World of Hyatt and in good standing when booking and staying and must provide their membership number

Most Hyatt properties earn 5 Base Points per $1 USD spent, so this promotion effectively brings that to 10X points per $1 before any elite tier bonus. The promotion caps the bonus portion at 25,000 points per qualifying stay.

PMB Take: This Is a Negative Change

First, you’re coming out ahead if you spend at least $100 USD per night in eligible spend. Since the new offer adds an extra 5 points per eligible $1 spent at most Hyatt properties, $100 in eligible spend earns 500 bonus points, equal to what the previous promotion awarded for one qualifying night. That sounds like an easy win, but keep in mind points bookings aren’t eligible for bonus points.

New Hotel Offer Rate Compared to Member Rate

You also have to book the “New Hotel Member Bonus Offer” rate, so let’s see how competitive that is with other rates. Looking at “The Standard, Mexico City”, the New Hotel Offer rate sits between the cheaper member rate and the standard rate. That’s not bad, but the bonus points are worth less than they appear if you’re effectively paying more for them, since members would otherwise book the “Lock It In Member” rate.

At the Thompson Rome, the “Earn 2x Points” rate is higher than the Member Grand Opening and lower than the Standard Rate. World of Hyatt members would otherwise book the “Member Grand Opening” rate, so you’re effectively buying double points for €75 EUR per night, about $84 USD.

The same applies at the Hyatt Centric Sapporo. Members by default would book the “Member Grand Opening” rate, or can spend an extra ~$13 USD per night to earn double points.

No Bonus Points on Hyatt Privé, Amex FHR, and More

The biggest implications, though, are not just paying more to earn double points, but the lack of stacking opportunities. If you book a stay with Hyatt points, a Hyatt Privé rate, through Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts, or any rate other than “New Hotel Offer-Earn 2x Points”, you’re not eligible for the new property points bonus. Previously, free night awards and a broader range of eligible paid rates could qualify for 500 bonus points per night.

Takeaway

Hyatt’s new double points promotion sounds like an improvement over the previous 500-point bonus, but I see it as a clear downgrade. Requiring members to book a specific rate means you may end up paying more just to earn extra points, and the loss of stacking opportunities makes the promotion far less flexible.

That doesn’t mean the new offer is never worthwhile. If the double points rate is the same as the cheapest eligible rate, or the additional points outweigh the price difference, it’s worth considering. Otherwise, I’d stick with the cheaper rate or whichever booking method offers the best overall value. Earning bonus points shouldn’t mean paying more than they’re worth.
