Canada’s second largest city, Montreal, is my preferred destination for a weekend escape. With an easy hour and half drive from Ottawa, I visit often to explore the blend of European charm and North American modernity this beautiful city has to offer. W Montreal located in the heart of downtown Montreal, and just steps away from the charming and historic district of Old Montreal, played host to our luxury escape.
W Montreal – Booking and Suite upgrade
I booked a cash rate for a 2-night weekend stay, at $416 CAD/night, for the ‘1-King Wonderful Guest Room’. Although expensive, I had used my Scotia Amex Gold card for the booking, and eventually used 41600 Scene+ points (per night) to pay for our hotel stay. The total out of pocket cost for the hotel was 83,200 Scene+ points, and $0.
As a Bonvoy Platinum member, I also added two Suite Night Awards to the reservation. Five days prior to arrival, I promptly received the Suite confirmation. To my surprise, I was upgraded directly to the WOW Suite (premium suite), as opposed to the Fantastic Suite (standard upgrade).
I had also taken the opportunity to contact the property in advance to inform them that we were travelling with our fur-baby, Chloe, on this trip. The hotel was more than gracious and confirmed that the WOW suite would be equipped with pet amenities (W dog bed, and W water/food bowls) to welcome Chloe ๐ We were also invited to avail the dog walking or pet grooming services offered by W Montreal, for an additional fee.
W Montreal Review
W Montreal is located across from the beautiful Victoria Square, a green city-oasis surrounded by the cobbled streets of Old Montreal, charming cafes, and boutique shops. The main entrance of the hotel is inviting without being loud, and the building itself looked charming against the fall colours of Victoria Square.
As we pulled up to the front doors of the hotel, the valet staff promptly helped us unload the luggage while we prepared Chloe for her grand arrival. Chloe loved all the attention she was getting from the staff that were eager to say hello, and impress her with how pet-friendly the hotel was. The agent that checked us in happened to be a dog-person as well, and insisted on a selfie with Chloe, of course she obliged – this was’t her first rodeo ๐
At check-in the agent reminded us that the stay at WOW Suite came with the option of breakfast in room, and also oriented us to the facilities of the hotel – Living Room the beautiful lobby bar, art gallery on the floor above, the gym, and Tbsb the exclusive restaurant serving Italian fare.
The lobby area doubles as a co-working space during the day, and transitions into a lively cocktail and tapas bar in the evenings.
W Montreal – WOW Suite
We were assigned the bi-level WOW suite on the 10th floor. The 686 sq.ft. suite came with a living room on the main floor to entertain guests, a powder room, direct access to a full terrace balcony overlooking Victoria Square, and Montreal downtown. The king bedroom located on the second floor overlooked the open concept living room with extra high floor to ceiling wall that opened up to the terrace and city views. The living room of the suite was flush with natural light which complemented the black and white decor across the living room, and the fun splash of colour in the bedroom above.
While I loved the open concept attached bathroom with stand-in shower, the see-thru glass walls of the shower area were open to viewing pleasure of folks in the living room. Not ideal in case you were sharing the suite with anyone other than your partner.
Other amenities of the bedroom included a locker, Nespresso coffee machine, all laid out with efficient use of the space around the bed, and easily accessible.
My favourite space was the terrace, coffee in hand enjoying the sweeping views of Montreal downtown, and the pretty trees and fall colours of Victoria Square.
We opted for the in-room breakfast and placed the order using the app which provided great convenience. I also used the app to request for extra amenities and and when required. The omelette and avocado toast were beautifully presented and setup for us to enjoy a lazy start to the day. Unfortunately (maybe not), that was the extent on our engagement with food menu at the hotel, as we opted to enjoy the several local spots that dotted the area within walking distance from the hotel.
A small gym was located in the basement of the hotel and offered a good setup for weight and cardio training during the stay. Despite the hotel being busy, the gym was almost empty the two times I went in.
W Montreal – Take Away
I know a stay was great when Chloe too gives it a nod of appreciation, and she did. An excellent property to use the Suite Upgrade Award which can book directly into a premium suite. Personally, I prefer a bi-level suite over one that is spread out across the same floor, and the WOW suite was definitely a better setup for family and couples alike. No matter what you choose to do, W Montreal offers a luxurious retreat surrounded by the Montreal charm that makes it such a beloved destination for travellers from around the world.
