Today, Aeroplan announced a new partnership with Hertz, offering Aeroplan members a special discount on car rentals, along with the ability to earn points when renting with Hertz. Eligible Aeroplan members can also earn Hertz Gold+ status through a lucrative status match, unlocking benefits such as car upgrades, priority handling, and more.
Aeroplan and Hertz — Earn Structure
As an Aeroplan member, you’ll earn points based on how much you spend at Hertz, with more points earned if you hold a higher Aeroplan status:
- Basic members earn 2 points per $1 spent
- Aeroplan Elite 25K, 35K, and 50K members earn 3 points per $1 spent
- Aeroplan Elite 75K members earn 4 points per $1 spent
- Aeroplan Super Elite members earn 5 points per $1 spent
Rentals with Dollar and Thrifty also qualify for earning Aeroplan points, though Elite members won’t earn more points. All Aeroplan members earn 2 points per $1 spent with Dollar and Thrifty.

Notably, 1 SQC is earned for every 5 Aeroplan points earned on car rentals, and this counts toward the 25,000 SQC maximum that can be accrued from partner activity. Like Avis, members are not eligible to earn both Hertz points and Aeroplan points.
This earning structure makes sense: the more you spend with Hertz, the more Aeroplan points you earn. Under this scheme, earning is straightforward, and longer rentals are usually more expensive and therefore earn more Aeroplan points. There’s little need to optimize your rentals in any way to maximize your Aeroplan points earning.
Aeroplan and Hertz — Status Match
Aeroplan Elite status members and holders of Aeroplan co-branded credit cards are eligible for complimentary Hertz status.
Hertz Gold+ President’s Circle status is the most valuable tier if you’re eligible, and Aeroplan Elite 75K or Super Elite members can match. Holders of a premium co-branded credit card are also eligible:
- TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card
- American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card
- CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card
- American Express Aeroplan Business Reserve Card
- American Express Aeroplan Corporate Reserve Card
President’s Circle is the highest status tier offered by Hertz and includes the full suite of benefits, including guaranteed vehicle upgrades, a dedicated customer service line, and access to the largest selection of exclusive vehicles.
Hertz Ultimate Choice is available at select airports where you walk into the lot and choose your car directly, and President’s Circle members get access to the best cars in Ultimate Choice.
If you are Aeroplan Elite 25K, 35K, or 50K, or you hold an Aeroplan core credit card, you are eligible for Hertz Five Star status. The following credit cards count:
- TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card
- American Express Aeroplan Card
- CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card
- TD Aeroplan Visa Business Card
- CIBC Aeroplan Visa Business Plus Card
- CIBC Aeroplan Visa Business Card
- American Express Aeroplan Corporate Card
- Chase Aeroplan Card
Five Star status is still a beneficial mid-tier status with free additional drivers and access to the Ultimate Choice lot, which often includes an upgraded vehicle.

Hertz elite status benefits
Enrollment is required via an online form that is on your Aeroplan dashboard. Hertz may take up to seven business days for your updated status to appear in your Hertz Gold+ profile. Once the status match is successful, it is granted for 12 months from the date of the initial request, and you will need to request it again every 12 months, provided you are still eligible.
Takeaway
The new Aeroplan and Hertz partnership introduces a straightforward way to earn Aeroplan points on car rentals, with higher earn rates tied to Aeroplan Elite status. It also adds another avenue for earning SQC through partner activity.
Where this partnership really shines is the status match. Eligible Aeroplan members and co-branded credit cardholders can unlock Hertz Five Star or President’s Circle status, with benefits like vehicle upgrades, priority service, and access to Ultimate Choice lots, adding meaningful value to the overall Aeroplan ecosystem.
