Air Canada Aeroplan and World of Hyatt have officially launched a new loyalty partnership with reciprocal earning, redemption, and elite status opportunities across both programs. The partnership is available immediately, with members able to link their Aeroplan and World of Hyatt accounts to begin accessing the new benefits. Once accounts are linked, members can access reciprocal earning opportunities, two-way point conversions, elite status benefits, status challenges, new redemption options, and enhanced rewards for Aeroplan credit cardholders who stay at Hyatt properties.
This partnership creates a compelling value proposition, albeit tilted in favour of Canadian Aeroplan members who until now did not have a primary avenue to earn Hyatt points in Canada. There is lots to unpack with this exciting new partnership, so here goes;
Aeroplan and World of Hyatt Status Challenge
Aeroplan Status → World of Hyatt Status:
Aeroplan Elite members, along with eligible Aeroplan Premium Credit Cardholders (Amex Reserve Cards and Visa Infinite Privilege Cards by TD and CIBC), will get access to an annual World of Hyatt 90-day challenge after linking accounts. Any status earned through the challenge will remain valid for the remainder of the current membership year plus an additional 14 months.
- Discoverist after 4 qualifying nights (typically requires 10 nights)
- Explorist after 10 qualifying nights (typically requires 30 nights)
- Globalist after 20 qualifying nights (typically requires 60 nights)
Premium Aeroplan credit cardholders will get access to status benefits beyond the annual status challenge, including;
- Complimentary World of Hyatt Discoverist status (typically requires 10 nights and includes benefits such as late check-out, preferred room access, and complimentary premium internet).
- Five Tier Qualifying Night credits each calendar year (a head start toward higher Hyatt elite tiers)
- Unlock a second opportunity to register for the status challenge in a calendar year.
World of Hyatt Status → Aeroplan Status:
The Aeroplan Status Challenge for select World of Hyatt Elite members is scheduled to roll out later in 2026 and will offer Explorists and Globalists a structured approach to up to Aeroplan 75k Elite status. Members can expect a lowered SQC requirement depending on their World of Hyatt status.
Two-Way Points Conversion
The Aeroplan and Hyatt partnership also introduces reciprocal point transfers between both loyalty currencies. For the first time, Aeroplan Elite Status members (exclusively) will get access to transfer airline points to hotel points.
- Aeroplan → World of Hyatt: Eligible Aeroplan elites can convert Aeroplan points into World of Hyatt Bonus Points at a 2:1 ratio
- Minimum transfer of 500 Aeroplan points
- Maximum 100,000 Aeroplan points per day
- Maximum 250,000 Aeroplan points per week
- World of Hyatt → Aeroplan: Members can convert World of Hyatt points into Aeroplan points at a 2:1 ratio. Transfers begin at 5,000 Hyatt points, with additional transfers available in increments of 1,000 points thereafter.
The 2:1 conversion from Aeroplan to Hyatt is decent and can yield impressive value for redemption at higher-tier Hyatt properties. For Aeroplan elite members who are points-rich, this option to convert Aeroplan points to Hyatt points can meaningfully fund hotel stays and pave the way towards earning elite qualifying nights with Hyatt. That said, redeeming Aeroplan points towards premium airline redemptions will continue to be the best use case.
Conversely, I do not see a compelling reason to convert Hyatt points to Aeroplan points, even for US members, since there are plenty of other transfer currencies (Amex MR, Chase Rewards, Capital One) that may be a better fit for funding Aeroplan balances. US members holding the Chase Aeroplan card can redeem Aeroplan points towards all travel (including Hyatt hotels) at up to 1.625 cents per point (USD) (with an Ultimate Rewards to Aeroplan transfer bonus), and can also transfer Ultimate Rewards directly to Hyatt, so consider all avenues when redeeming.
Earn Aeroplan Points on Hyatt Stays
Aeroplan members will now have the flexibility to earn Aeroplan points on Hyatt Stays or Earn World of Hyatt points as per usual, depending on whether they are prioritizing hotel status progression or building an Aeroplan balance for future flight redemptions.
- Earn World of Hyatt points, or
- Earn 500 Aeroplan points per stay instead of Hyatt points.

Enhanced Earn Rates for Aeroplan Credit Cardholders
There has never been a better time to be an Aeroplan credit cardholder, and this partnership now allows cardholders to earn rewards in both loyalty programs during eligible Hyatt stays. After linking accounts, Aeroplan credit cardholders will earn Aeroplan points AND World of Hyatt Bonus Points on eligible spending at participating Hyatt hotels. These accelerated earn rates apply in addition to underlying Hyatt points-earning and credit card earning, creating a dual-earning opportunity that did not previously exist.

Aeroplan and World of Hyatt Partnership – New Redemption Opportunities
Perhaps the most notable addition is that Aeroplan points can now be redeemed directly for World of Hyatt Free Night Awards. Through the partnership, members may now redeem their Aeroplan points towards Hyatt Free Night Awards!
- 25,000 Aeroplan points for a Category 1-4 World of Hyatt Free Night Award.
- 75,000 Aeroplan points for a Category 1-7 World of Hyatt Free Night Award.
The partnership also works in the opposite direction. World of Hyatt members can redeem;
- 50,000 World of Hyatt points for an Aeroplan Flight Reward Certificate worth 30,000 Aeroplan points, which can be applied toward Air Canada and partner airline award flights.
Takeaway
The Aeroplan and World of Hyatt partnership introduces one of the more comprehensive airline-hotel loyalty collaborations available to Canadian travellers. Rather than focusing on a single benefit, the partnership spans reciprocal point earning, point transfers in both directions, hotel and flight reward redemptions, elite status opportunities, and enhanced credit card earning at Hyatt properties.
For members who already participate in both ecosystems, linking accounts unlocks the full range of benefits immediately, while additional reciprocal elite status opportunities for Hyatt members are expected to become available later in 2026.
