Building on their long-standing partnership, Air Canada and United Airlines have announced an enhahnced transborder agreement for summer 2023, with over 80 transborder codeshare routes and more than 260 daily flights to provide better options to customers traveling between the two countries. This includes two new non-stop flights between Vancouver (YVR) – Washington DC (DCA), and Calgary (YYC) – Washington DC (DCA), and an increased presence in western Canada.
New non-stop flights between Canada and US
The non-stop service between YVR – DCA will begin June 1, 2023 and will be operated by Air Canada on Boeing 737 Max 8, while the YYC-DCA route will be operated by Uited Airlines on Airbus 319. The schedule for these new flights will be;

In addition to the new routes, the enhanced summer schedule will also provide increased transborder service between the U.S. and Western Canada;
- Vancouver (YVR) – Newark (EWR) – 9 daily flights
- Vancouver (YVR) – Houston (IAH) – 9 daily flights
- Vancouver (YVR) – Chicago (ORD) – 9 daily flights
- Vancouver (YVR) – Los Angeles (LAX) – 7 daily flights
- Calgary (YYC) – Chicago (ORD) – second daily flight
- Calgary (YYC) – Houston (IAH) – second daily flight
- Edmonton (YEG) – Denver (DEN) – second daily flight
Shuttle style service between hubs
Both carriers will also run a shuttle-style hourly service throughout the day between key Air Canada and United hubs, specifically;
- Toronto (YYZ) – Chicago (ORD)
- Toronto (YYZ) – Newark (EWR)
- Vancouver (YVR) – San Francisco (SFO)

Both airlines will offer business class seats on every flight between their respective hubs and continue to offer reciprocal elite benefits to Aeroplan and MileagePlus loyalty program members.

They should increase their integration so that people who buy an AC ticket on a codeshare with United livery don’t face issues when their AC ticket includes a checked bag and United doesn’t know about it. AC should also issue the United PNR since there is a United PNR and an AC one. You’d think they wouldn’t need to be told these very simple and obvious things…
Good point. AC has indicated further integration with select Star Alliance partners, which includes reciprocal elite benefits. Let’s hope it becomes reality soon – that will resolve some of the stress and confusion for those on codeshare bookings.
