Finnair Plus has just launched a points purchase sale with up to a 40% discount on your miles purchase. This is the best promotion we’ve seen from Finnair Avios and the best purchase price in quite some time across the entire Avios ecosystem.
Finnair offers either up to a 40% discount or up to a 50% bonus, with the 40% discount offering the best purchase right — which is the current offer.
Members can unlock the full 40% discount by purchasing at least 85,000 Avios before tomorrow, June 17. The purchase price is 1.3 USD CPP, with the 40% discount included.
When it comes to this 40% bonus offer, Finnair opens the buying window for only a few days. You can purchase up to 200,000 Avios. If you want to purchase more than that, wait for the 50% bonus offer to come around and you can purchase up to 300,000 (with the bonus included, but at a higher 1.45 CPP price).
Keep in mind you can freely move Avios between British Airways Club, Finnair Plus, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, Iberia Plus, and Aer Lingus AerClub. Therefore, it makes sense to acquire Avios through whichever of the above offers the lowest price and to move your Avios around accordingly.

The default price is in EUR, but you should change it to USD to get the best possible price. Essentially, you’ll pay either €4,200 or $4,340 USD for 200,000 Avios, with the USD pricing coming out substantially cheaper. Change the currency at the top of the screen, but note all other currencies (other than USD) will still default to EUR.

Your Finnair Avios account needs to be at least 5 days old and have at least 50 Avios in your account; you can move Avios from British Airways to fulfil this requirement.

If you don’t need the minimum purchase of 85,000 Avios, there are a few other ways to increase your Avios balance. Since you can move your Avios between “flavours”, you can purchase Avios wherever is most advantageous and move them to any account.
Avios Boost & Subscription Plans
The easiest way to boost your balance is with a “Subscribe to Avios” plan. Qatar, Finnair, and British Airways all offer these, and the monthly subscription has a minimum 3-month term.
This works best if you only need a small top-up of 20,000 Avios or less, since the Avios are distributed monthly. For what it’s worth, the price comes out to 1.46 CPP for 20,000 Avios with Finnair, so buying Avios is actually a better deal, with the caveat that the minimum purchase amount is 85,000 Avios.
The subscriptions can come out a little cheaper if purchased annually (get 12 months for the price of 10), but you’re locked in for a full year.
Top up your balance with a Finnair Plus Avios subscription
One lesser-known Avios feature is Avios Balance Booster, which lets you pay a fixed price to double or triple your Avios earnings (British Airways Avios). This can come out to 1.22-1.25 USD CPP when British Airways is running a promotion, which is arguably the best price available for acquiring Avios.
However, you need to have earned Avios in order to double/triple your balance, and you can only boost in increments of what you earned. Avios transfers from Amex and RBC do qualify, but only transactions made in the last 30 days can be boosted. You also cannot boost purchased miles or miles transferred from another Avios currency. Overall, this is the best way to buy Avios, but with many “gotchas”.
What to Book with Avios
As you can freely transfer Avios among multiple airlines, I’ll include some of my favourite Avios redemption opportunities:
- Qatar Airways Qsuites business class one-way from North America to Doha for 70,000 Qatar Avios; continue onwards to Southeast Asia or Africa for 95,000 Qatar Avios
- Finnair business class from North America to Northern Europe for 62,500 Finnair Avios
- LATAM business class from North America to southern South America for 75,500 Finnair Avios
- American Airlines business class from North America to the Caribbean for 25,000 Finnair Avios
- American Airlines economy flights within North America for 12,000-16,000 Qatar Avios

Avios is also fantastic for redemptions that don’t touch North America, as I redeemed just 51,500 Avios for a 13-hour Iberia business class flight from Santiago to Madrid and 62,500 Avios for Finnair business class from Helsinki to Hong Kong. For the same price as a business class flight from North America to Helsinki, you can fly 12 hours instead.
Buy Finnair Plus Avios — Credit Cards to Consider
Finnair Plus Avios purchase transactions are processed by Points.com and will not code as a travel purchase, so it is best to use a card that offers the highest return on standard daily transactions. You can use either a Canadian or U.S. credit card as the miles price is the same regardless. With Canadian credit cards, make sure to use one that does not charge foreign transaction fees such as the Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite.

For those not in a hurry to have Avios, a better way to earn them would be through the credit card bonuses offered by Canadian credit cards. The easiest way to rack up miles quickly is via American Express Membership Rewards or RBC Avion, which transfer at a 1:1 ratio to British Airways Avios. RBC is currently offering a 30% bonus when converting to Avios until June 19, 2026.
Buy Finnair Plus Avios – Takeaway
Avios is one of my most-used currencies, but this purchase promotion is not good enough to recommend buying speculatively. I would first try using Avios Balance Booster, but if I don’t have any Avios to boost or need more than that, buying 85,000+ Avios through this promotion at 1.3 CPP is a solid price. Avios subscriptions are best for a small top-up only, given the higher rates.
