Singapore Airlines has unveiled its next-generation long-haul cabins, including First Class double beds and Business Class doors. Here is what is coming, which aircraft will get it, and what we still need to know before booking.

Singapore Airlines has given us a first look at its next-generation long-haul cabins, and I am still trying to decide how I feel about them. There is plenty to like on paper: sliding doors in Business Class, companion dining and double beds in First Class, and new Premium Economy and Economy seats that look rather inviting. Visually, though, parts of this feel quite removed from the Singapore Airlines I have come to know.

The airline is investing more than S$2 billion in the new cabin products, with a progressive introduction scheduled from the second half of 2027. The programme covers 41 retrofitted Airbus A350-900 long-haul and ultra-long-range aircraft, alongside the incoming Boeing 777-9 fleet.

For anyone already thinking about a redemption, the 777-9 will get all four new cabin products, while the A350 retrofit does not include the all-new Premium Economy and Economy seats shown below.

When can you fly Singapore Airlines’ new cabins?

Singapore Airlines’ announced rollout window starts in the second half of 2027.  The beginning of a gradual introduction.

New Business Class – Doors, Companion Beds and a Very Different Look

The new Business Class is coming to the long-haul A350-900, A350-900ULR and Boeing 777-9. It introduces sliding privacy doors and electronically adjustable centre dividers.

The full-flat beds, of course, and the selected centre seats can be configured as companion beds when the divider is lowered, giving couples the option of a shared sleeping space. And because the airline specifies selected seats, I assume the companion-bed configuration may be a first-row feature or available in alternate rows, as we see with other airlines.

Other additions include a padded bedsheet with memory foam, tactile seat controls, wireless charging, USB-C and universal AC power. Entertainment comes through 4K touchscreens of up to 22 inches, with spatial audio and Bluetooth headphone pairing.

But those seats look nothing like what I think of, or expect, from Singapore Airlines Business Class. It is not just the colours. The shape and finish look harder and stiffer in the launch images than the plush seats I associate with Singapore’s premium cabins. The grey tones and metallic accents give it a futuristic feel, but I am missing some of that familiar warmth.

Of course, a photograph cannot tell us how a seat feels after several hours. The improved ergonomics and memory-foam bedding may well deliver the comfort I am struggling to see in the images. I will reserve judgement until I have the chance to sit, lounge, and sleep in it.

For reference, PMB’s existing A350 Business Class review covers the earlier product.

New First Class – Double bed, Companion Dining and Privacy (?)

The new First Class will be available on the A350-900ULR and Boeing 777-9.

For passengers travelling together in the centre seats, the retractable divider can be opened on request. The seats can form a two-person sofa or an 80-by-60-inch double bed, which Singapore Airlines describes as the largest in commercial aviation.

Is it just me, or do the First Class cabin colours bring Qatar Airways to mind more readily than Singapore Airlines? That was my immediate reaction to the visuals. The double bed and companion dining setup look really good, though, and I can see the appeal for two people travelling together.

First Class Divider – Center Seats

I am less convinced by the divider between the centre seats. From the launch images, it leaves a lot to be desired for me, particularly if the two passengers are not travelling together. It’s a question about how private the space will feel in practice, rather than an absence of separation. I would want to see it fully deployed and experience the sightlines before judging it properly.

Companion dining is another appealing feature. Each First Class seat supports face-to-face dining, with a large table that can also serve as a workspace. A personal wardrobe, vanity drawer and baggage storage beneath the ottoman are welcome additions. Beyond the seat itself, adjustable lumbar support, side wings, and a 32-inch 4K touchscreen look impressive.

New Premium Economy – 40-inch pitch

The all-new Premium Economy seat is a Boeing 777-9 product. This is worth repeating because booking Premium Economy on a retrofitted A350 will not secure the seat pictured here.

It offers 40 inches of seat pitch and up to nine inches of recline, with leather upholstery, plush cushioning, a four-way adjustable headrest, and a leg rest with an adjustable footrest. The new seats also include storage for personal items, a separate cocktail tray, an adjustable reading light, and a holder for a phone or tablet. Passengers get 4K entertainment screens up to 16 inches, Bluetooth audio pairing and spatial audio, plus USB-C and AC power.

Of all the new cabin images, Premium Economy gives me one of the clearest impressions of comfort. It looks chic and modern, but the seat cushion still looks plush and inviting.

New Economy – More knee clearance

The new Economy seat is also destined for the Boeing 777-9. Singapore Airlines will use wool-blend upholstery, ergonomic cushioning and a four-way adjustable headrest, with a redesigned recline mechanism intended to improve knee and shin clearance.

The upgraded IFE includes a 4K touchscreen of up to 13 inches, spatial audio and Bluetooth pairing. There is also storage below the monitor, a cupholder, a coat hook and USB-C charging. Economy looks chic and modern to me.

Takeaway

There is plenty here that I want to experience. First Class companion dining and the double bed look particularly appealing, while Business Class doors, more usable sleeping space and improved controls look impressive.

What I am still working through is the overall design. The sharp colour differences across the cabins leave me a little confused, and the interiors don’t immediately register as Singapore Airlines to me.  That may say as much about years of seeing and flying Singapore Airlines in certain colours as it does about the new cabins. I welcome change. It may simply take a while for this version of Singapore Airlines to feel familiar. Ultimately, I care more about how well the seats deliver comfort than how quickly I warm up to their appearance.
