The Waldorf Astoria Osaka opened its doors in 2025 and is it is the brand’s debut in Japan, found in the heart of Osaka in the Umekita district. The hotel itself is part of the Osaka Grand Green development, occupying floors 28 to 38.

Strategically connected to a shopping centre and conveniently located next to the Osaka Station, guests can also easily access the JR line to explore nearby cities Kyoto, Kobe and Nara. When I learned about Waldorf Astoria’s opening in Osaka, no planning was needed! I instinctively booked my stay here without hesitation, having already experienced the Waldorf properties in other cities.

But did the one in Osaka live up to my expectations?

Waldorf Astoria Osaka – Booking

Similar to Tokyo, I knew that redeeming hotel points or certificates represented the best value for international chain hotels. I initially booked a four night stay using two Hilton Free Night Awards (FNAs) and redeemed 200,000 points for the remaining two nights.

Before my trip, I earned two additional FNAs through a credit card sign up offer. I cancelled the points redemption, with my stay completely covered using four FNAs. When I re-booked, the points rate did bump up to 120,000 per night. Luckily, there was no additional cost since I was using certificates. FNAs for the win!

Waldorf Astoria Osaka – Arrival Pavilion

We took the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka, followed by a cab ride and arrived to the Waldorf in the evening. Porters quickly whisked away our carry-on bags. Another staff member greeted us and led us to the elevator to ascend to the Arrival Pavilion on the 29th floor.

Stepping out of the elevators, directly facing us was the Peacock Alley lounge. It was absolutely stunning with an airy, open space featuring panoramic floor to ceiling windows, offering spectacular views of Osaka’s skyline.

Turning left from the elevator, we walked through a long, marble floored, grand hallway that exuded luxury even before reaching reception. At the Arrival Pavilion, front desk associates bowed their heads in greeting.

Our check-in was promptly completed and she provided us with a wooden tray of towels and a small cup of cold Japanese green tea.

The front desk associate recognized my Hilton Honors Gold elite status, sharing that we’d been upgraded from a deluxe room to a premier room. She handed me detailed info page about the hotel’s dining options and facilities.

She also provided me with a sheet that highlighted the benefits of Hilton Gold membership:

  • Complimentary breakfast for two guests or 1,000 bonus points
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
  • Room upgrade (when available)
  • Late check-out (when available)
  • 80% points earning bonus
  • Digital check-in and digital key
  • 25% discount at hotel restaurants (with some menu exclusions)

Waldorf Astoria Osaka – 2 Queen Premier Residence

The Waldorf Astoria Osaka features 254 guest rooms and suites. We walked past the reception to another set of elevators to head to the 32nd floor, to make our way to our assigned room, 3220.

While not a suite, I was impressed with the size of our 2 Queen Beds Premier room, at 53 square meters. Waldorf refers to their guest rooms as residences, and it’s easy to see why. There was a long hallway in our room, with the bathroom to the right near the entrance to the guest room.

The marble bathroom had double vanities, a soaker tub next to a rain shower and a separate enclosed Toto bidet. Aesop bath products complimented a box of toiletries. This included a hair comb, toothbrushes and toothpaste, shower cap, loofah, vanity kit and shaving cream, but surprisingly no mouth wash.

Past the bathroom, a generous walk-in closet included a full length mirror. Although three drawers were provided for storage, one housed the safe. The closet also included a large shelf, convenient for storing luggage and there was space beneath for shoes. Above it was ample space to hang clothes.

The queen beds were firm but comfortable, though the duvet covers were heavier than I liked. I actually preferred the lighter ones I had at the Courtyard Tokyo. The beds had 400-thread count sheets and a pillow menu was available. Bedside switches offered convenience to control the lighting and the blackout curtains.

One design element I appreciated was the wooden artwork above the beds. I learned that they used Japanese Kumiko woodwork method, that uses no nails, glue or screws. A little bit nitpicky but I didn’t like that the night tables had shelving instead of drawers. However, the tablet displaying the weather, time, alarm settings and room service options were convenient.

Yet, the one item that really stood out on the night table was the beautiful jewellery box, such a nice touch! More hotels need to start offering this amenity. I finally had a place to store my jewellery before going to bed!

A corner mini bar area featured complimentary glass bottles of still and sparkling water, Espresso machine, traditional Japanese tea pot and cups along with tea bags and coffee pods. Other room amenities included an iron with ironing board, an umbrella, plush bathrobes, slippers and a simple yet beautiful white pyjama set. If you love the pyjama, you can buy it at their spa.

Our room also had floor to ceiling windows, with city views flooding the space with natural daylight. By the window, was a lounge chaise for relaxation and a coffee table with a chair.

On the table was a welcome note, though it was not personalized. They also had a bowl of grapes as a welcome amenity. I found this was disappointing and paled to the impressive welcome amenity I received at the Waldorf Astoria Kuwait.

Turndown service was available each evening, where they left behind coffee flavoured chocolates. Overall, I loved our spacious guest room. It provided everything we needed for a truly comfortable stay.

Waldorf Astoria Osaka – Dining and Drinks

The Waldorf Astoria Osaka offers a variety of dining options catering to different tastes, all with incredible skyline views of Osaka. Peacock Alley, located on the 28th floor, stands out with panoramic views of Kansai region. It has lounge seating and a central bar with stools to soak in the views as you sip your champagne or coffee.

Peacock Alley is open all day and is the ideal spot for a light meal or to indulge in an afternoon tea experience. It also opens for breakfast from 8:00 to 10:30 a.m., though the breakfast spread isn’t as extensive as the one offered at Jolie Brasserie.

Jolie Brasserie

Jolie Brasserie

Featuring French cuisine and other Western dishes, Jolie Brasserie is located on the 29th floor, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. With extended breakfast hours 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., it became our daily breakfast destination.

They had a decent selection through both a buffet spread and an à la carte menu with various egg dishes and Japanese breakfast food. You can order one main dish, though any additional main dish order comes with an extra charge. I ordered the avocado toast the first morning there, and it arrived with the toast burned. I avoided ordering it again. For the rest of the days, I stuck to the buffet, eating a light breakfast. The lemon marmalade was a highlight and tasted homemade.

The service was friendly, but there were a couple of mornings during our stay where it was chaotic. Part of our stay was during Golden Week when tourists packed the restaurant to capacity. Fortunately, for our final morning, it was much more peaceful and the staff looked more relaxed as most of the tourists were gone by then.

We also enjoyed dinner here one night and had a delicious salad, followed by Wagyu burgers. The burger was a bit too thick for my liking but the salad was exceptional.

Another dining option is Tsukimi, open for lunch and dinner. This Japanese restaurant serves sushi and teppanyaki. We didn’t get to try it but if you’re a beef enthusiast and have a big budget, it may be worth a visit. I’ve heard their Wagyu beef is aged a minimum of three years, so you can expect a quality meal in an elegant setting.

For drinks or light bites Canes & Tales, offers rare sakes alongside classic cocktails. I highly recommend making reservations if you want try any of the restaurants. Having elite status is also valuable to benefit from the 25% discount at the hotel’s restaurants.

Waldorf Astoria Osaka – Facilities & Services

If you’re looking to pamper yourself, the Waldorf Astoria Spa is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a selection of treatments for relaxation on the 30th floor. For workouts, the fitness centre is well-equipped and is open 24/7. Personal training is also available for a fee. I regretted not packing my swimsuit because the women’s change room had a large jacuzzi and sauna. There is also an indoor swimming pool with fantastic views of Osaka Bay.

What I love about the Waldorf Astoria brand is its ability to deliver luxurious and refined experiences without feeling over the top or pretentious. The Waldorf Astoria Osaka exceeded my expectations. Our premier room was spacious, modern, and equipped with all the amenities to make for a comfortable stay.

The staff exemplified hospitality, opening doors for us, warmly greeting us and treating us with kindness. The hotel’s location next to the Osaka Station provides convenient connections to explore other parts of the city. The Waldorf Astoria Osaka was the highlight of my Osaka trip and I would love to return here again.
