The coveted Andaz West Hollywood (WeHo) had been on my to-do list for a few years. A property as much famed for its elegance as for its wild past. During a recent trip to California, I decided to indulge and experience this property in all its glory.
Booking:
Recognizing the demand for this property during peak summer season, I planned ahead and booked months in advance. For our four night stay, I booked a points+cash rate (10,000 points + $125 per night) for a standard Andaz King room (227 square foot). Then I called the Hyatt reservation line and used a Diamond Suite upgrade amenity to confirm an Andaz Suite King (800 square foot one-bedroom suite), which retailed at $480 USD at the time of booking.
Check-in:
Andaz WeHo is located on Sunset Boulevard about 45-minute drive ($20-$25 with UberX) from Los Angeles International airport. The fun and spunky character of this property became evident as soon as I stepped into the lobby. The absence of a traditional check-in desk is unique and I was quickly welcomed by my host, Walter, equipped with an iPad. I was told that the check-in formalities could be completed either standing around or lounging on the comfortable sofas while sipping on a welcome drink. No points for guessing which option I chose 🙂 .The check-in process took less than 5 minutes and we were personally escorted to our suite on the 8th floor, by Walter who was very helpful throughout our stay.
The Suite:
Our suite was an expansive 800 sq ft, one-bedroom Andaz Suite King with two full bathrooms. The doors opened to a well-designed and furnished living room, an attached ‘sun room’ with floor to ceiling window. The furnishing in the living room was sparse (but adequate) which made it look even bigger. A beautiful dining table with a hand written welcome note from the hotel manager was a nice touch. The snacks and non-alcoholic beverages in the mini bar were complimentary as well.
A highlight of the suites at Andaz is the full guest bathroom and shower alongside the living room. This allows privacy and convenience if you are hosting guests. We had requested for a roll away bed for my brother which was promptly setup at no additional cost.
The large bedroom was efficiently designed and furnished with plush king size bed, a single sofa, large screen tv, plenty of storage space and a good size en-suite.
The sunroom attached to the living room was my favorite spot in the suite as it allowed me the perfect setup to sink in the sofa and gaze out the window at downtown LA, or get some work done basking in the natural light from the floor-to-ceiling window. The in-room WiFi was excellent and I was able to stream videos, upload pictures and conduct all my work online with ease.
Rooftop Pool:
The swimming pool is located on the rooftop and while the setup is great and supplemented by a bar, the pool itself is rather small and I did not see anyone actually swimming. Most people lounged by the pool with drinks alongside. One side of the roof is lined with splendid daybeds, which provided cool shade and your own little cozy space.
Breakfast:
As a Diamond member, a full breakfast at the Riot House Restaurant was complementary for up to four guests. I had a choice of either the buffet or ordering off the menu. While I signed a check at the end of each breakfast, I was never charged for it at checkout. Breakfast timings were very generous, from 6:30am to 11:00am. This allowed me to indulge longer in the very comfortable bed before I made my way to a brunch-worthy breakfast. The restaurant was drenched in natural light and made for a perfect start to the day. So consumed in our chats, laughs and lengthy breakfasts that I forgot to take pictures! I hope this serves as a compliment to the great food, service and setup of the restaurant 🙂
Take Away:
Andaz West Hollywood turned out to be all that and much more, it superceded my expectations on all counts. What made my stay even better was the excellent staff with the attention to detail. Shout out to our host Walter who went above and beyond with his service during our stay. Having experienced the Andaz WeHo, it will sure be my top choice hotel in LA.
