Frankfurt Airport Marriott Hotel Review – Booking
Layovers are often viewed as something to endure rather than enjoy, but every so often a hotel changes that equation entirely. My stay at the Frankfurt Airport Marriott Hotel came during a brief overnight stop in Frankfurt on my journey home from India to Canada. With a layover of less than 24 hours, convenience was the deciding factor for my choice of hotel.
I booked a standard cash rate of €159 for a Deluxe King Room, specifically because of the hotel’s location. The Frankfurt Airport Marriott is directly connected to Frankfurt Airport Terminal 1 and is the only hotel with direct access to the airport’s new SkyLine people mover, which connects Terminals 1, 2, and 3. For anyone transiting Frankfurt frequently, it’s difficult to find a more practical location.
Getting There and Check-in
Shortly after arriving at FRA on Air India’s brand-new Boeing 787-9 from Mumbai, into Terminal 1, I made my way past customs towards the iconic split-flap departure board and followed the signs upstairs to the elevated terminal connector, which led directly to the airport hotel.

The connector led me to the shared entrance of the Frankfurt Airport Marriott Hotel and the adjoining Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel, both housed in the same complex yet operating as separate brands. From there, it was simply a matter of walking over to the Marriott reception desks.

Check-in was efficient and welcoming. As a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite, my reservation was upgraded from a Deluxe King Room to an Executive King Room on the Club Floor, which also included access to the hotel’s M Club Lounge. For an overnight airport stay, that upgrade added great value and elevated a very routine layover.

My upgraded room, 9241, was located on the exclusive Club Level, just beyond the entrance to the M Club Lounge. The first impression was exactly what I have come to expect from Marriott’s newer airport properties. The room felt modern without trying too hard, with functional and understated elegance. Warm wood finishes, dark marble accents and soft lighting were inviting, while subtle inspirational quotations etched into the walls reflected the property’s design inspiration drawn from Frankfurt’s famous publishing and literary heritage.

The room itself was spacious and thoughtfully laid out. Alongside the comfortable king bed was a generous corner sofa, perfect for catching up on work before heading downstairs. A large work desk, ample charging options, and a sizeable television were practical features I expect of a modern airport hotel (Review – Hilton Helsinki Airport Hotel).

The bathroom was equally impressive. It featured a spacious walk-in shower, premium bath amenities and plenty of countertop space. The overall layout felt efficient.

When it finally came time to sleep, the king-size bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the blackout curtains, combined with excellent sound insulation, made it easy to forget that aircraft were taking off just outside.

One of the advantages of the Executive Room upgrade was complimentary access to the M Club, located on the ninth floor. Unfortunately, by the time I checked in shortly after 6:00 p.m., the lounge’s Hors d’oeuvres service had already concluded at 5:30 p.m. Fortunately, Frankfurt Airport Marriott offers an impressive selection of dining options, with five distinct food and beverage venues throughout the property. Instead, I headed downstairs to The Eatery Kitchen and Bar.

The restaurant offers an international menu in a casual setting, making it ideal, as I was looking for more than a quick airport meal. I started with a beautifully presented charcuterie board before ordering the BBQ short rib, which was easily enough food for two meals, and I happily finished the leftovers later that evening after returning to my room.

Following dinner, I wandered over to the hotel’s elegant Davidoff Lounge in the lobby area, which is designed primarily for cigar enthusiasts and premium spirits. The lounge was nearly empty later in the evening, so I settled into a comfortable chair with a glass of red wine and spent some time catching up on work in a remarkably quiet setting.

The following morning, I had the opportunity to properly experience the M Club Lounge. As expected, it proved to be one of the busiest spaces in the hotel, but also one of its highlights. The lounge featured stylish seating areas, an adjoining outdoor terrace, complimentary breakfast service, snacks throughout the day and an impressive selection of beverages.

Unlike many executive lounges that rely on basic sandwiches and packaged snacks, the F&B offering here felt genuinely elevated. For Marriott Bonvoy members (Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador Elite), M Club access remains one of the strongest elite benefits at this property. Each member is also allowed to bring one guest.

The lounge operates for Breakfast service daily from 6:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and for evening Hors d’oeuvres from 1:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
If your arrival is later in the evening, as mine was, planning dinner elsewhere in the hotel is worthwhile before returning to enjoy the lounge later for drinks or a quiet place to relax.
Takeaway
Although my stay lasted only a single night, the Frankfurt Airport Marriott demonstrated exactly what a premium airport hotel should be. I never had the opportunity to use many of the property’s additional facilities, such as the fitness centre, sauna, or the outdoor M Club terrace, but everything I did experience left a strong impression.
The combination of modern rooms, quality dining, an excellent executive lounge, and genuinely unbeatable airport connectivity makes this an excellent layover hotel in Frankfurt. The convenience simply cannot be overstated. Being directly connected to Terminal 1, the SkyLine train linking all terminals, and both regional and long-distance rail services means there is virtually no wasted time getting to or from the hotel.
Given how frequently I connect through Frankfurt, I can confidently say this will not be my last stay here. The Frankfurt Airport Marriott Hotel delivers where it matters most – location, comfort, elite recognition and quality dining.

I would call it the “best” in terms of quality for a Marriott hotel at the airport but I typically will not pay significantly more for it over the Sheraton either in $ or in points. I fly through FRA often and usually compare the two Marriott options to the two Hilton options and pick based on that since all my stays are for one night before an early flight. I rarely find a “cheap” rate at any of the 4 hotels in the Squire so I’ve also stayed at the Moxy and/or Hampton Inn just outside that require a shuttle or taxi ride.
I stayed at the hotel a few years back when it was all Sheraton, before it was split into a Marriott and a Sheraton. The club lounge then was quite nice and as an elite my room was bumped up nicely. My wife and I revisited in June and I once again chose the Sheraton. It was fine as we were just looking for a meal (club lounge was down to beverages only) and some sleep. The change in club lounge drinks and snacks hours do puzzle me a lot. I suppose I don’t mind having some drinks and food at 3 in the afternoon but 5-8 PM makes a lot more sense. I suspect that that’s exactly why they made the times so awkward.
This hotel is an excellent convenience. And for those with a long layover outbound from North America, arriving FRA in the morning, Booking on marriott.com with rate code ZDY unlocks “Day Rates” for checkin after 8am, checkout before 6pm. Perfect for those with departures after dinner to Asia. We paid €120 to stay from 8 to 6, perfect for our 07:15 arrival and our 20:10 departure to Bangkok. With same status as Anshul (Platinum), I was upgraded to a large suite with 3 double beds and an oversized bathroom. We didn’t use the restaurant/bar/fitness, we just slept the day away.
