Aeroplan has launched a lucrative promotion for Canadian co-branded credit cardholders – save 15% on the points required for eligible Air Canada flight rewards. The promotion starts September 10, 2026, and cardholders have until January 11, 2027, to make an eligible booking. The travel window is unusually generous, extending through December 31, 2027.
The timing is particularly interesting given the core benefits of the revamped Chase Air Canada Aeroplan Credit Card in the U.S., and it brings us back to something we have discussed at PMB for a while – should a meaningful discount on Aeroplan flight rewards become a permanent benefit of holding an Aeroplan credit card? I think there is a pretty good argument that it should.
What is the Aeroplan 15% cardholder discount?
Primary cardholders of eligible Canadian Aeroplan credit cards can receive a 15% reduction in the Aeroplan points required for the base fare of eligible Air Canada flight rewards.
To qualify, you need to make the redemption between:
September 10, 2026 and January 11, 2027
The actual travel can take place between:
September 10, 2026 and December 31, 2027
That second date is important. You can potentially use it to book Air Canada award travel more than a year in advance.
The 15% reduction is an Air Canada redemption discount, not a blanket 15% discount across Aeroplan’s partner network. It applies to flights fully operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge or Air Canada Express. A journey combining Air Canada and a partner airline will not qualify for the reduction for that direction under the stated terms. The 15% reduction applies to the Aeroplan points required for the base fare of an eligible flight reward. It does not reduce taxes, fees or other charges associated with the booking. It also doesn’t apply to third-party products you might purchase during the booking process, such as travel insurance or carbon offsets.

No. The 15% reduction applies to the Aeroplan points required for the eligible base fare. Taxes, fees, charges and eligible third-party purchases are not discounted.
Is the 15% Aeroplan cardholder discount permanent?
No. As announced, this is a limited-time promotion for eligible bookings made through January 11, 2027. PMB would like to see Aeroplan eventually introduce a defined redemption discount as an ongoing Canadian Aeroplan credit card benefit.
PMB Takeaway
Better late than never, I’m glad it has come around in the form of a promotion 🙂 Canadian Aeroplan cardholders can save 15% on the base-fare points required for eligible Air Canada flight rewards booked between September 10, 2026 and January 11, 2027, with travel permitted through December 31, 2027. The long travel window makes this considerably more valuable for future travel bookings, and it’s the closest a promotion has come to becoming a core benefit of the co-brand card itself.
But I’d like to see Aeroplan go one step further. Make a defined flight-reward discount a permanent part of the Canadian co-brand card proposition. Give Aeroplan cardholders a clear, easily understood reason to keep an Aeroplan card in their wallet, and consider giving premium cardholders an elevated version of that benefit.
