Members of Air Canada Aeroplan and United Airlines MileagePlus can now enjoy reciprocal free Wi-Fi when flying on each other’s aircraft. Personally, this is welcome news as I exclusively fly these two airlines for all my travels in North America. And like me, it will significantly improve the onboard experience for frequent travellers across both networks.

Aeroplan and MileagePlus members – Reciprocal free Wi-Fi

If you’re an Aeroplan member travelling on United’s Starlink-equipped aircraft, you will be able to access Wi-Fi by adding your Aeroplan number to your United reservation. Simply connect to the onboard Wi-Fi and sign in using your date of birth and United booking reference (PNR). Once logged in, you’ll have complimentary connectivity for the full flight.

United is in the middle of a fleet-wide Starlink installation, with a very aggressive rollout already underway. The airline has already equipped 300+ regional aircraft, primarily Embraer E175s, and Starlink is now available on roughly 25% of daily departures. The entire United fleet is targeted for completion by the end of 2027.

United MileagePlus members flying Air Canada can also connect for free by adding their MileagePlus number to their Air Canada booking. Log in to the Wi-Fi portal and enter your last name and seat number. Air Canada’s complimentary Wi-Fi (sponsored by Bell) is currently available on North America and Sun destination flights equipped with high-speed connectivity.

Long-haul free Wi-Fi coming on Air Canada

Air Canada has confirmed that complimentary Wi-Fi on long-haul international flights is planned for 2026, extending the benefit beyond North America and Sun routes. Once implemented, this could dramatically improve connectivity across transatlantic and transpacific flights, especially for business travellers, looking for productive work time.

Between Air Canada’s Bell-sponsored connectivity and United’s Starlink rollout, this partnership has the potential to deliver one of the most practical loyalty benefits I’ve seen in a while, and one that flyers on both sides of the border will appreciate immediately.
