For the first time since launching the card a few months ago, Tangerine has introduced an elevated welcome offer that can earn new cardholders up to 60,000 Scene+ points, worth up to $600 when redeemed for travel. The new offer is split into two pieces:
- 50,000 bonus Scene+ points after spending $5,000 in Net Purchases within the first three months of opening the account.
- 10,000 bonus Scene+ points after spending $30,000 in Net Purchases during a 12-month annual period.
The 50,000-point welcome bonus is worth $500 in Scene+ value after $5,000 of spending, which comfortably offsets the card’s $120 annual fee in the first year before we even consider the lounge passes, regular Scene+ earning or other card benefits. Eligible new cardholders must apply by January 31, 2027 to qualify for the current 50,000 Scene+ welcome offer.

New Tangerine Rewards World Elite Mastercard cardholders can earn 50,000 Scene+ points after making $5,000 in Net Purchases during the first 90 days after opening the account. At the standard Scene+ redemption value of 100 points = $1, that’s $500 in value.
An additional 10,000 Scene+ points are available as Tangerine’s Annual Spend Reward: spend at least $30,000 on the card during your 12-month annual period, and Tangerine awards another 10,000 Scene+ points, worth $100. This second component is an ongoing annual spending benefit of the card.
Together, the 60,000 Scene+ points = $600 in potential redemption value.
How does the Tangerine Rewards World Elite Mastercard earn Scene+ points?
The Tangerine Rewards World Elite Mastercard earns 1.5 Scene+ points per $1 in three Accelerator Categories of your choice, and 1 Scene+ point per $1 on other eligible purchases.
Cardholders can choose their three accelerated categories from 13 options: Grocery, Restaurants, Gas, Entertainment, Furniture, Hotel/Motel, Drug Stores, Recurring Bill Payments, Home Improvement, Public Transportation and Parking, E-Games, Fitness and Sports Clubs, Foreign Currency Spend.
Tangerine Spend Categories
Even better, you aren’t permanently locked into those selections. Tangerine allows you to change your three Accelerator Categories every 90 days. The ability to choose bonus categories has long differentiated Tangerine’s cash-back cards, and I like seeing the concept carried over to its Scene+ product.
If your spending changes throughout the year, your card can change with it. Maybe hotels and restaurants make sense ahead of a summer trip, while recurring bills, groceries and gas make more sense once you’re home.
The Foreign Currency Spend category
One Accelerator Category worth highlighting for travellers is Foreign Currency Spend. Select it, and eligible foreign currency purchases earn 1.5 Scene+ points per dollar instead of the standard 1 point. The card still charges a 2.5% foreign transaction fee, so don’t confuse it with a no-FX-fee credit card. Earning 1.5 points per dollar helps offset some of that foreign exchange fee.
If you already want this card for its Scene+ ecosystem and other benefits, having foreign currency spending available as an Accelerator Category is a useful option.
How much are Scene+ points worth?
One of Scene+’s strongest features is that the program is relatively easy to understand. For travel redemptions, 100 Scene+ points are worth $1, giving you a straightforward value of 1 cent per point. That means;

You can redeem Scene+ points for travel, groceries, dining, entertainment, fuel, and shopping. Tangerine also supports Scene+ Points for Credit, letting you redeem points toward your Tangerine Rewards World Elite Mastercard balance.
You can book through Scene+ Travel powered by Expedia, where you can redeem points at 100 points = $1.
Or, you can book eligible travel directly with a travel provider using the Tangerine Rewards World Elite Mastercard and then apply Scene+ points toward that purchase afterward. Eligible purchases can include flights, hotels, resorts, car rentals, Airbnb, and other travel purchases. You can apply points to an eligible travel transaction within 12 months of purchase.
Four complimentary airport lounge visits every year
The Tangerine Rewards World Elite Mastercard includes four complimentary airport lounge visits per membership year through Mastercard Travel Pass by DragonPass. Four visits on a $120 annual-fee card is impressive, especially for someone who travels a handful of times each year but doesn’t necessarily need the unlimited lounge access that often comes with much more expensive premium cards.
The four passes are essentially four person-visits. If you visit a lounge alone, you use one pass. If you bring one guest, that visit uses two of your four complimentary visits. Once you’ve used all your complimentary visits, additional visits currently cost US$32 per person per visit. Cardholders must also enroll in Mastercard Travel Pass to use the benefit.
Shell Go+ and Scene+ benefits
Tangerine’s relationship with Scene+ also opens the door to another benefit that could be particularly useful for drivers. Once cardholders link the Tangerine Rewards World Elite Mastercard with Shell Go+, they can receive enhanced fuel benefits at participating Shell locations in Canada.

The current offer can provide up to 10 cents per litre in combined value on qualifying premium fuel purchases through a combination of fuel savings and Scene+ points.

If you select Gas as a bonus category, you’ll also earn 1.5x Scene+ points per dollar spent when filling up. For drivers who regularly fuel up at Shell, this partnership can add meaningful value to the card’s everyday earning potential.
Travel insurance and other coverage
The Rewards World Elite Mastercard comes with a reasonably comprehensive collection of travel and purchase protections, and includes coverage such as:
- Travel medical insurance for eligible cardholders under age 65
- Trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance
- Flight delay coverage
- Baggage delay and lost/stolen baggage coverage
- Rental car collision/loss damage coverage
- Mobile device insurance
- Purchase assurance
- Extended warranty protection
As with credit card insurance, eligibility, coverage limits, trip duration, age restrictions, and the requirement to charge all or part of a trip to the card can vary by benefit, so I recommend reviewing the insurance certificate before relying on the card for a specific trip.
Annual fee and income requirements
The Tangerine Rewards World Elite Mastercard has a $120 annual fee for the primary cardholder. Additional authorized users cost $30 each, and Tangerine allows up to five authorized users.
The income eligibility criteria for the Tangerine World Elite Mastercard are $80,000 in individual annual income, $150,000 in household annual income, or $400,000 in assets under management. Approval remains subject to Tangerine’s lending criteria.
Who could get the most value from the Tangerine Rewards World Elite Mastercard?
The Tangerine Rewards World Elite Mastercard will likely appeal most to Canadians who want to earn Scene+ points but prefer the flexibility to choose their own spending categories. The ability to select three 1.5X Accelerator Categories and change them every 90 days makes the card unusual among Canadian premium rewards cards.
It may also appeal to travellers who value four annual airport lounge visits but don’t need unlimited lounge access, as well as Scene+ collectors who regularly use the program for travel, groceries, fuel or other redemptions.
The card is less compelling for foreign currency purchases because it still charges a 2.5% foreign transaction fee, even though Foreign Currency Spend is available as a 1.5X Accelerator Category.
